|

Thinking of trying Mongolia for my summer vacation... a weekend in Ulan Batar and then a few days in the desert.
Mongolia is relatively close to Korea... but I cant seem to find tickets for under eight hundred US dollars. Is this pretty typical? Seems expensive to me. I'm finding tickets to Beijing for two hundred dollars, and Mongolia cant be much more than twice as far, though I'm not the best with geography.
Anyone know any goo websites? Perhaps some Korean websites/travel agents?
Or any thoughts on Mongolia? Seems kind of... nondescript or random or whatever, but I've seen most of Asia and haven't been there yet. As long as I can have some drinks and some nice meals, meet a girl or two and walk around seeing interesting stuff while not spending too much money, I'll have a nice time. |

OR... cheap flights to Bangkok or Laos (either city)?
There's some Korean website that specializes in cheap, frequent flights to Bangkok, but I can't remember what it's called... anybody?? |

forget about cheap flights to mongolia, korean air only flies there twice a week and its expensive, air china via beijing may be an option
for thailand/laos you have a couple of options, air asia via kl, they have connecting flights to bangkok and vientiane.
another option is a jeju or jin air flight to bangkok then grabbing an air asia flight to Ubon Thani (I think) which is about a 2 hour bus ride to the border, its 1/3rd the price of flying direct from bangkok to vientiane, or fly into bangkok and overnight train it to Nong Khai on the border |

$800 is pretty typical for Mongolia. It was about $500 when I went five years ago from Beijing. If you can, try to get a Mongolian carrier. Flights are very unpredictable due to the weather and altitude, and Mongolian carriers have to return at the end of the night, whereas Korean/Chinese are less likely to make the trip and more likely to cancel. |

When I went the cheapest rates were on Mongolian Air's website. Expect flight delays returning to Seoul, as UB airport gets hit pretty hard by the elements sometimes.
Also, try the travel forum for advice on Mongolia as a travel destination. There are loads of threads on it. |
