Trying to help out a friend who is coming to visit. He wants to fly from Tokyo to Seoul one way. I've been trying to help him out but the cheapest I've seen for late July is around $500. Do you have any suggestions? Seems like the Korean sites only do stuff that originates out of Korea.

Correction. The cheapest flight (one way or RT) we can find is over $600! I had a Korean friend call a few places today and could not find anything better. Is this seriously the cheapest fare from Tokyo to Seoul!? That's crazy. My friend is looking for a departure between July 26-28th.

I don't know if this helps, but he could consider flying to Busan with Air Busan and then busing or taking the KTX up to Seoul. It looks like a round-trip is about $425 while a one-way is about $600. I know it's not ideal, but if he can't find anything cheaper then he might want to check it out.
Here's their website:

I flew with them to Jeju over Seollal and they were great. They're Asiana's low-cost airline.

If he's got time he could hop a ferry in Osaka.

Wrong forum.
You should ask those in Japan who know some Japanese travel agencies that deal tickets originating from Tokyo. Agencies on the receiving end (i.e. Korea) can't pull any string on this matter.

Thanks for the replies. My friend decided to just change up the itinerary and just RT ferry from Busan and Fukuoka. It seems like flights are crazy expensive these days.
