Never worked there and frankly never heard much about these schools shifty.
I therefore reserve judgement.
What you have in this thread is one person who slammed the school(s) and a couple of posters who claim to actually work in one of those schools and be happy there.
All I am saying is that while either of these perspectives may be accurate or innacurate, the Daves rote reflex is to swallow the bash and brush away the posts from people who claim to work there.
Its a classic on here.... |

I also reserve judgement.
It is nice to luxuriate in the position where no sides have to be taken and one can adopt a watching brief.
Having said all that, if I were really considering a job at I Sponge I'd be on tenterhooks and have a feeling of foreboding.
In Korea if there's smoke we have to assume fire. Some good jobs will fall through the cracks but that's not our fault. |

Were I considering working there, I would not have asked about the school on an online discussion board such as this one.
I would have talked to staff at the school directly and made up my mind based on this information along with the contract and the way things went with management during the selection process.
Relying on this place to form an opinion about a school is not something I would do. Just my personal opinion here anyway. |

I would use any and all means to hand, the net as widely thrown as possible.
For example on this thread alone a very good tip comes from INDAGU.
Actually, I don't understand your logic here. Do you believe there are posters that deliberately sabotage, for example? |

big stretch between being happy to answer questions and being happy at the school.
here is what TylerRay said:

Are you kidding? Come on now, you have never thought about the fact that some people would get a rise out of posting false horror stories about a school on an anonymous discussion board?
While some people post valid complaints, the opposite happens too. It is unavoidable that some people will run on here and post crap about school X. Perhaps they were fired (for good reason) and are frustrated for example.
I read a couple of stories online (here and on another board) about two schools where I worked. The stories told were false and I knew for a fact these schools did not do any of the things that were claimed online. I also know that 2 teachers turned down offers from these decent places based on what they read online. It happens and is part and parcel of online discussion boards. All I am saying is there are better ways to get informed.
My point: I (just speaking for me here) would not use an online discussion board to enquire about a school I was considering working for. Then again, I have the luxury of having experience in Korea. |

Well, this is how TylerRay felt back in January.

On the face of it, this alone vindicates the use of Daves. Also raises suspicion that the word of the current teacher is not the be all and end all.
But since it is a new hakwon there's no previous teacher to call on, so what can we do?. Can't all be heroes but maybe the OP is willing to go over the top.
With a name like isponge off You, he's already off to a flying start. |

Sorry I'm not very clear in my post. I meant, that I don't understand your logic in spurning Daves as a source of info and then offered a possible example to illustrate the intent of my question.
Anyway, you have answered my query in your subsequent post so I now know, thanks.
I personally would still use Daves b/c I believe fraudulent posters can be quickly seen through, apart from cliffhanger warnings that you'd be missing. Different horses, courses. |

No comment about about the Daegu branch, but I have some fond memories working for Edubox before I Sponge was opened a few years ago.
I have quite a few 'wonderful' stories about I Sponge's namesake, Daniel Moon, but those pesky defamation laws here stop my sharing =/ |
