Hello people,Irish lady back on this forum again hoping somebody can help me,thank you all so much for your advice to my other questions!!!!!!!!
Well anyway,my enquiry now is to do with public schools.I dont really understand it,they are all still advertising JOBS for September on esl cafe and other sites.
What I what to try to acquire some knowledge about is this-ARE THERE SOME publicSCHOOLS IN SOME PROVINCES IN KOREA THAT ADVERTISE INDEPENDENTLY and don't go through a recruitment agency or EPIK ,GEPIK OR SMOE???You know,it would be just the principal and top staff making the decision as to who to hire.If so,where are these schools that just hire independently???????????
That is the first part of my question. The second part is this-for the public schools that use a recruitment agency,do these go through EPIK,SMOE OR GEPIK after you have applied to them.I ask this because I have looked at esl cafe jobs for Korea now and there are a number of public school positions up there at the moment advertised through recruitment agencies but they are not asking for any kind of medical applications at all, therefore just wondering if they go through EPIK,SMOE or GEPIK after you send off your basic application to these agencies??
I hope somebody can help me on this as I want a public school position for September, but I want to be clear about this point as I am a little bit frustrated thinking about it and HOPING SOMEBODY ON THIS GREAT FRIENDLY FORUM can help!
Thank you so much,
Irish lass Natasha x |

Independent public school hiring is not common but happens. I havent noticed any ever advertising though. I'd guess those jobs go through word of mouth, specialized recruiters (you'd have to ask), or just a timely walk-up.

A health check is required for your alien card issuance, whoever hires you. |

Most schools go through a recruiter. I would go that route. I didnt go through an application process. Just talked to a recruiter, sent my resume. School hired me. If you are in Korea it makes it easier. My contract was just a photocopy of an EPIK contract, but it was through the city's office of education. Great, cuz there were no budget cuts for my program. I'm actually leaving it for a different PS in Sept. Its a sweet gig, but Im moving to be closer to my GF. PM me if you want info. |

Hi,
Thanks for your answers but I still dont really understand.
Do you mean that if you go through a recuriter they will still give you the application form that those who go through EPIK,GEPIK OR SMOE get?
Only if you go through a recruiter they just ask you for your resume first-but you still get the same application form as EPIK,GEPIK or SMOE (depending on what province you want).
Thanks,
Natasha |

Yeh, I'd expect you'd be filling out the same forms.
Whats your concern exactly? |

A private hire to a public school whether through a recruiter or directly through an ad, personal reference or walking in off the street is not substantially different from going direct (or by recruiter) through EPIK/GEPIK/etc.
About the ONLY real differences are:
a) that you will know where you are working before you sign the contract instead of finding out after you land in Korea.
b) You will get a visa confirmation number to take to the consulate instead of a NOA (notice of appointment).
The documents are the same.
The rules are the same.
You are still working under the control of the Provincial office of education (EPIK/GEPIK, etc.). |

When the positions are filled or 21 days prior to the first week of school for the 2nd term (mid august if the positions were not all filled prior to this).
Private recruitment to public schools (schools finding their own teacher by way of a recruiter or word of mouth) happen year round but there aren't as many recruited this way (maybe 10% of new hires).
