No worries.

always happy to confirm opinions based on fleeting limited glances at what a person passing by in the hall. That is always a factual and accurate way to know what that person does in his functions at his job.

Carry on.

i been here for almost 5 years and going into my 6th this august and always wonder why people want to take the thankless job that is fruitless and unrewading. worst of all both koreans and ft's despise you for what you do and most cases what you don't do. Razz

Nobody WANTS to take a thankless job. They take it because it is a necessary evil -- the job can not go unfilled -- there must be a sacrifice, there must be a scapegoat.

A person may take the job because he/she believes that this time, he/she will do it differently. Someone might take the job because that person figures, "hey, I will do it better than Xxxx will, so it may as well be me." Some might simply have it forced on them, and since they do not want to quit, it becomes something to be endured, perhaps on the way up the ladder, perhaps not.... Some people have it thrust on them through attrition.

By the way, teachers with attitudes like yours are the major reason WHY the job is thankless and unrewarding -- so good job on that!

nobody wants thankless job but they take it anyway perhaps blinded by extra 200k a month.

no one can force you to take the job. they asked me twice for it and i turn it down while i've watched 5 come and go because they didn't have the spine to say no.

gadfly sounds like he is one of those useless and hopeless coordinators forced to take the job. if you are, sorry. if not, good for you. Razz

Nope -- not a coordinator, nor do I work in a PS at the moment...I just know that some jobs suck, and that they suck MORE because of certain people....

Some people try to make the world a better place by making an effort to be a net-positive force in the world...other folks are content to crap in the sandbox and giggle at the mess they make....

Not to mention that some people may take this position for career reasons. You also seem to like to assume a lot about people. How they hell do you know the reasons those 5 people took the position?

Gadfy made a very good point about your posts as well. Perhaps its just you posting on an online forum and has nothing to do with how you are in your day to day worklife but the job you discuss is usually made hard and difficult because of teachers who love whine, complain and love to crap in the sanbox, giggle and marvel at their little pile of dung.

hahhaaha...yikes! make a career as a ps coordintor? no thanks. and i know because some of them told me why.

perhaps, but that's a utter bs. the job is made difficult because the job is designed that way. no one seems to know what their responsibilties are because there's no job description. someone in the other thread said, "coordinators are nothing but glorified receptionists." also, those that were coordinators warned me about ever becoming one. perhaps, this thread will enlighten naive future ps coordinators to think twice before taking on the job.

Wrong again -- is that, like, your thing? I have never worked as a ps coordinator, and I do not work in a public school right now -- I did briefly in the past in Korea, and disliked it intensely. I worked in public schools in the US, and while I liked the teaching, the administration and focus on standardized testing was not something I prefer.

Currently, I work at an academically-oriented hakwon (yes, they exist), which lets me teach students who want to learn, at a pace and level that challenges both the students AND me.

I do not rule out the possibility that I may work in a ps in the future, though, as life is long, and things change...but, please, Ramen, continue shooting around in the dark -- you may hit something eventually...or perhaps one of your own rebounding shots will silence you....

Surprised to see the two of you (Patrick and gadfly) get more than a one-liner out of Ramen. 헐!

To some degree I agree with both opinions. I have known (at the start) a fantastic coordinator get closer to becoming burned out- she held a conference where she told us NETs that she didn't want us calling her to resolve disputes Question Confused rather it was our job to read the contract (I agree) and deal with our school personally (disagree). Well then, why is she there? Her position could instead be used to give some L1s another year or give a school w/o a FT the shot at having one. The concept of a liason/coordinator is great but when they dont do anything (D@!N 배) then its a money pit.

Edit: parts in parentheses
