So halfway through my third contract I was approached by my foreign manager saying that the original contract I signed was wrong because the end date didn't account for the 3 weeks that I took off after my second year. I didn't think much of it as I generally (or rather naively) trust people here and signed it after a quick look over in the middle of a busy work day.

Now I'm nearing the end, and my contract finishes late September, my visa the beginning of September (3 weeks apart). In order to fully finish my contract, I have to re-do the CRC, degree apostille, etc because of the new E-2 regulations.

I'm wondering if I could swerve around all this nonsensical hassle and get Immigration to approve a 3 week extension under these circumstances, or if anyone has heard of that kind of short extension allowed.

Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

I think you can avoid the CRC, and others. This time last month, a few of my co-workers and I had to same problem as yours. I extended for an extra 3 months, but my co-workers only needed a week. We had no problems, didn't have to do any CRC or degree apostille. A Korean staff at my school took care of the process and the only thing needed was our contracts, passports, and ARC cards. We got everything back, including the our ARC stamped with the new expiration date, the next day.

IF you have not had a change of status since Dec. 2010 AND you have not signed an acknowledgement that you need to provide those documents then you will probably be allowed the extension without the need for new documentation (CBC/Degree).

Another option (albeit slightly illegal) would be to obtain a 30 day (non-working) extension based on an exit ticket and then finish your contract that way.

DON'T OVERSTAY YOUR ARC.
