|

I am renewing with my public school and have opted this time to find my own place and take the housing allowance. I have signed the contract and informed my school of my plans long ago but now they are saying that will let me choose the apartment and they will sign the housing contract. They refuse to let me have the apartment in my own name. I may be wrong, but this doesn't sound like a housing allowance then.
After some arguing they agreed to let me have it in my name but I must submit to them my housing contract before they will give me my monthly 400,000won allowance. I have put together some key money and found a place for less and was hoping to save on the rent. Does anybody know If I actually have to give into their demands? Surely some people take the allowance and live with a friend etc. and thus have no contract to provide their school with? |

I don't think you'll win this one!
I bet (although i'm not sure) that the Korean translation of you're contract will say 'up to 400,000' per month.
I hope it's a nice place! Anyways i'm sure your principle will buy you a moving in flower as he's going to be getting an extra pay check every month now |

I believe the wording on the contract is either they get the place for you or they give you a 400,000 won subsidy. But the catch is you have to furnish your own place. I opted for my own too. I make a little off the subisidy, but not much. Reread the contract. If that's the exact wording then stick to your guns and be stubborn. Too many wimpy foriegners not sticking up for themselves nowadays. Then when I go to a new school, they try to cram things down my throat because the last guy bent over. Guess what I'm saying is make sure it's worded in the contract then stand your ground. |

Im pretty sure the guys at my school PS that take the extra money just get it added to their check no questions. They probably had a good deal before and were skimming the extra money for themselves, now they are pissed they dont get those free lunches. |
