applied for my alien card 2 weeks ago and they told me that it would take 3 weeks! i've even paid the 6k for them to deliver it directly to the school. I am worried since i have 3k left to my name. yes, 3 dollars to do me until x and I owe 400k to people
Pay day is coming up on Friday but I wont see it if this alien card doesn't arrive. My school has told me however that they will keep the dosh and as soon as the card arrives i will receive payment. still, I would like to hve this by the weekend to pay off people. |

why won't your school pay you? because you don't have a bank account? you should be able to receive cash in this situation. |

Thanks for your response.
I have a bank already but I don't have an atm card nor internet banking. According to my co teacher this doesn't affect me putting money in or taking money out of the account.
They have basically said that you cant get it until you have the alien card. end of. |

Call the Immigration Office and see if you can pick it up in person.
IIRC, when I got mine, they told me that shipping it would take about a week longer than picking it up in person. Also it could get lost in the mail. |

You have a bank account already? Why didn't you get the ATM card when you opened the account? You don't need an arc did get a bank account, but you need your arc OR passport to get a new atm card/bank book/etc.
The three weeks sounds like a high estimate to me. Any time I've gotten a card it's been two weeks - every time. Even when I had it mailed, it was two weeks, plus a day for mailing.
Which office did you go to? Did you drop off your passport with them, too? |

apparently some banks require that you have the alien card. The bank account was indeed opened but without any access to the atm or internet banking.
The people at immergration did warn me that it would take 3 weeks but everyone is saying 1 week at most. I feel that i have complicated things by asking for them to send it. You know what admin is like here. |

It's normal to ask them not to send it so you don't have to miss work or whatever. I don't get why your school is refusing to pay you though.
You worked, you get paid. You have a legal E-2 visa to work. I've never heard of Alien registration having anything to do with receiving pay.
I'd put the pressure on the school, not immigration. |

Your employer is REQUIRED BY LAW to pay you whether you have your ARC back or not (labor standards act).
If you are at a hagwan - shame on them. Collect CASH and be prepared for other slick moves that are illegal (like screwing you on taxes, pension and medical to name but a few).
If you are at a public school they can deposit it into your bank account. You CAN open an account before you get your ARC. You only need your passport. The only problem is that you are limited to counter service until after you get your ARC or until you have been in Korea for 90 days or more (Bank Act changes came into effect back in 2006/7).

Unfortunately they're in the process of switching over to a different company printing the cards. Yangju Immigration says it takes up to a month to get your new card. I'm going through the process of replacing mine right now. It sucks. |

You do not need an ARC. All the school needs is the bank name and account number. I speak from personal experience.
Your school is playing games. Or is completely clueless. |

above posters are correct. sorry to say but they must not like you for some rason.
let this be a good lesson for newbies. bring enough money to last you at least 2 months ($2000) or a credit card so that you won't be looking like a homeless loser.  |

Its a public school in seoul. And from what i have seen so far, they have been good.
I've only been here a month and i don't want to rough up any feathers. Another teacher at the school had the same problem apparently and was not paid for 2 months! I thought i brought enough money with me to see me through the first month, about $1700. However I did not start until the 31st of may and only moved into my apartment on that date.
I ask though, why would they need my alien card to pay me? would it be to do with taxes ect? I'll be making further enquires tomorrow. |

it doesn't matter. they have to pay you first and settle the taxes and deductions later. |
