This is for those of you who have gotten your state representative involved with the CBC procedure. I have some questions.

1. At what point did you contact your representative? Was it during the wait for the background check to come back, or during the wait for the CBC to be apostilled?

2. How effective was your representative in expediting the process? Also, how long did you have to wait once they got involved?

My stepmom knows the person who runs our congressman's local office and she is offering to reach out in order to speed things along. I have sent the CBC application in to the FBI. That was 2 weeks ago so I am still waiting patiently, but I am a little bit nervous about the apostille portion of the process, since it seems that this is where the bottleneck is occuring. I am fortunate in that I live in the northeast, and I was considering just hopping on the old chinatown bus and walking in. I would rather not have to do that, especially if I only have to wait a week with my representative's help. Anyway I was hoping for some insight from the salty nuts in this here peanut gallery.

Can't hurt. I turned mine in a couple weeks ago also, but im in korea so I went through an apostille place. Its insanely expensive 200 bucks, but they claim to get it done quick. If it get it back at a reasonable time it was worth not dealing with the hassle.

Do you not have to do it with the DoS? Can you do it with your state or a private agency? I'm sending my documents off today and need them back by September 1st so I need this as quickly as possible.

Which agency did you use?

And just for extra info....I applied for my criminal background check on April 7th and received it on May 18th. (41 days).

I applied for the apostille at the U.S. Department of State on May 18th and am yet to receive it back (34 days and counting.....)

Apostille pros. Someone recommended them on this or another forum. I have no idea if they can make it happen quicker, they say it takes them 4 days, but im still waiting for the FBI part to clear. Just less hassle doing it from Korea. I filled out my forms and mailed everything to the company, they sent in my FBI check for like 15 extra dollars.

Contacting your Congresswoman/man over speeding up the FBI CBC check if you're in a real hurry? Very advisable. Other people have talked about it on Dave's and they seemed to feel that it worked. Although use that option sparingly because Fairies and Leprachauns only grant 3 wishes.

If I send in my FBI documents to apostillepros, what should I send? And where is a Fedex I can send from? I went to a Fedex Kinko's today and they didn't have prepaid envelopes. Do I need to send apostillepros a prepaid envelope or will they have that covered?

I called their number on skype and asked them to be sure all the details and got a quote because my request was a little more than they are used to, but i believe all you need to do is all your fbi stuff and then the apostille pros paperwork. They take care of mailing it back to you. But if you already sent it to the FBI, they are gonna mail it to wherever you told them to mail it. They told me to write the apostille pros address down for that.

Where can I get a prepaid envelope? Fedex or a Post Office? Should I use Fedex or the Post Office? I can go to the Post Office today, but would have to wait until the weekend for Fedex.

There's a Fedex near exit 8 or the Hongdae subway stop. Just sign up for an account online and ask for another airbill form and write that number at the top and put that in with your fingerprints. The FBI got another envelope for me (I guess they have access to Fedex envelopes) and rewrote my account number on it.

Knowing the way you vote, I'm not surprised! Wink But, knowing the way I vote, my congressman also falls into that category.

Triban, if you need it by September first, you're hosed IF you're talking about the actual FBI check AND apostille.

That's 9 weeks and 1 day from today. It's going to take about a week to arrive. Using FedEx, you might get it there in 3 days. I've never had anything arrive faster than 3 days using FedEx to/from Korea.

They process the paperwork in batches. I sent mine in during what is considered a "slow" period and it still took them 26 days to process it, 10 days to actually write the letter, and then 4 days for them to put their notary on it - 40 days at the FBI. After that, it took a couple days to get it sent to my house after which it was turned right back around to the SOS office where I got an apostille on February 14. Assuming you can get them to FedEx it out to you that day and a 3 day time to get it here (an extremely generous guess), you're looking at 77 days from when they receive it to when you get it back - best case. 11 weeks.

Good luck though.

I'll be using apostillepros for the apostille and my Mom is friends with our congressman so it should be finished by September 1st.

Welcome to Asia. You can't get them in Thailand either, DHL, UPS, FEDEX. They must use additional couriers in Asia.
