Hi. Can someone explain smart phones for foreigners please? I'm not in Korea now but have been before and I will be coming back soon. I have a feeling a lot of things have changed since I left.
Some questions that come to mind:
-Is Korea GSM or CDMA?
-Can you bring over an American smart phone and get it activated there?
-Do E-2 English teacher types usually have contracts or pay as you go phones?
-What do you guys think is the all around best deal?
Thanks. I keep hearing conflicting information. Just trying to get ready. |
follow this flowchart:
1. do you have an unlocked iphone in the us?
no, go to 2.
yes, go to 10.
2. do you talk more than five minutes a month or plan on having any kind of social life that requires communication?
yes, go to 3.
no, go to 9.
3. can you use a computer, and subsequently, the internet?
yes, go to 4
no, go to 8
4. even though you are going to be here for at least one year and might not be able to finish a two year cellphone contract that will get you a great phone for a low cost are you too lazy to find someone to take it over at the end of your year or unwilling to make a little effort to find someone else's two year contract to take over?
no, go to 5
maybe, go to 6
yes, go to 7
5. find a used smartphone on craigslist or daves, install kakaotalk, prosper.
6. you've fallen in a pit of lava due to your indecisiveness. start again at the beginning.
7. get a new 1 year contract and get a cheap non-smartphone that will most likely suck.
8. go back to school before going anywhere
9. come to korea and get a prepaid phone
10. come to korea and use your iphone |
