Just a quick question. I sent my resume to a school who'd posted an opening on the job board. It hasn't been that long so I haven't expected any response to it yet, but I noticed that one of my recruiters also posted this same opening in one of their job postings. I'm trying to decide whether I want to ask them to contact the school for me. In my experience (which is limited), when I've sent out a resume to individual schools, I've gotten no response. But going through this recruiter, I've gotten two job interviews (one I turned down) and a job offer (that I'm about to turn down). Do you think I'd have a better chance of getting an interview with this school if I asked the recruiter to recommend me, or would it look bad to send multiple resumes to the same school?

Are you sure the recruiters haven't already sent them? It usually works itself out.

For example I've had recruiters tell me "hey I found this job" only to get a "oh they've already interviewed you let me find another" email two hours later without me even replying to the first one.

This has happened more than once with different recruiters.

But to answer your question, go for it.

I once sent out a resume DIRECTLY to a school, didn't get a response. Got recommended by a recruiter to the same school later and got an interview and a job offer. It's worth a shot.

So, the school contacted me before the recruiter was able to contact them. What should I do? Should I tell the recruiter that I changed my mind? Should I do nothing?

Update:

Funny story. The recruiter I was using had already helped me get a different job offer about a week before. I turned it down because the place seemed a little shady, and I think the recruiter got irritated because I didn't take the job. She basically told me that she probably couldn't help me because I was being too difficult.

So back where this thread started, I sent the resume to the new school and also asked the recruiter to contact them for me. The school replied to me directly and scheduled an interview. 5 minutes later, the recruiter told me the position wasn't available to me because I didn't meet the school's minimum qualifications. I'm pretty sure my recruiter tried to sabotage me. Not sure why, though. She probably thought I wouldn't have taken that job either so she just didn't bother.

She'd already stopped looking for jobs in Seoul, my preference (even though she told me she would keep looking), because she didn't think anyone there would hire me because I'm black (she said it much nicer that that). Honestly, I think her recruiting agency and the school that offered me the job are linked and she would have gotten a higher fee for placing me in one of their schools. When she told me I couldn't apply for the job, she tried to push this other school on me. I'd already told her a week before that I didn't want an interview with them (it was run by the same people as the shady place).

But ultimately the joke is on her. I was offered and accepted the job at the new school (the one I wasn't qualified for) and now she gets no fee. Not that she cares. She hasn't contacted me since.

Recruiters do pull some shady things now and then, and other times they are just downright useless.

I had a recruiter send me to a school an hour late for a scheduled interview,
needless to say I didn't get the job. When I called the recruiter about it, she claimed it was my fault and accused me of lying. *~*

Take care when dealing with recruiters.
