Interesting. So, what if one has no desire to teach in north America and wants the easierst and cheapest Master in Education or any ESL related field that would be accepted by Korean unis (and possibly unis in other countries such as the Middle East and Asia)? This can either be online or in Korea. Basically, just looking for something to add to a resume and be more marketable. Could care less if I actually learned something.

The framington master's program sounds very interesting. Any others cheaper (and easier?)

Note: spare the don't you want to learn, or any finger wagging type responses. etc. I asked what I asked. If it can't be toward that end don't post a response. I know its a public forum but just do the usual DavesESL d*ck move and preach. Don't be 'that guy/gal'

I can't sort out how much that Framington program costs, but this may be cheaper:

The University of Nottingham has a distance MA TESOL for about 6600 pounds or around $10600 USD.

A bit cheaper than any N. American program I've found.

Total tuition for the 10 course through Framingham State was roughly $5,600 US + an application fee of something like $150 US. The course fees are subsidized by a non-profit education group in MA, saving you more than 50%.

The books probably cost another $1,000 US more or less.

Room & board during the sessions can be a bit pricey though. 8 hours of class a day for two weeks or weekends, not to mention plenty of reading/writing every night and group presentations, make lengthy commutes less than desirable. You have the dorm option during summer and winter sessions, but have to stay in a motel during May weekend classes. Food and rooms can run between $1,500-2,500 US depending on what best suits you.

When all is said and done you come in under $10,000 US for a degree that meets during vacations IN Korea with full contact hours from American profs.

By they way, an MAT is usually preservice. You do, however, have to pass most of the statewide teaching tests before you can enroll. MEds are generally geared toward certified teachers.

nottingham is looking really interesting, does anyone have actual experience doing one of these distance ed masters? it seems like something that a lot of overseas teachers would be interested in.
