Have any of you rented a car in the US for a month or more? What kind of insurance did you use? I really don't want to pay the car rental agency 15-20 USD per day for insurance. Were you able to get your Korean insurance to work overseas?
Thanks |

Your Korean car insurance will not carry over to another country. At least mine didn't. When I go back I usually stick with Avis rental agency. They have a decent selection of cars and the prices aren't excessively high.
I always get the insurance. I think they only let you opt out of it IF your own insurance company will cover damages to the car. I think an extra 15 or 20 bucks a day is better than paying thousands if you damage the vehicle.
Also, I am not sure how old you are, but in the states you have to be at least 25 to rent a car. |

Thanks. I have rented a car and used AVIS the last few times I went back to the states. But this time, we'll be there for more than a month. I really didn't want to pay an extra 600-800USD for insurance. It's only slightly more expensive to get insurance for a full year in the US. |

If you are going to be there for a month you may be able to work out a deal with a normal insurance agency. One of my friends did that with Progressive the last time he went back because he was staying there for two months.
The rental agency also gave him a break in the price since he was using the car for a long time. |
