Is it just me or is turning into another Itaewon? I have a lady friend telling me its just foreigners nowadays, and all the bars from Seoul now have places down there.

I lived there in 2005 or so, and there were some foreigners there, not too many, and the only time to really avoid it was the summer rush time.

I popped down there recently and it just seemed to be..well..not as classy.

anyone have an opinion?

My girlfriend tells me that its because its too cold to swim now, and that only waygookins would be crazy enough to go swimming now. I was there last weekend and saw the same thing, but I bet in a month or two it will be a completely differnt ratio.

I had the same observation when I went there last weekend. Used to be PNU and Kyeongsung were the places to go to see foreigners, but Haeundae was packed with them. Also, there were a pretty sizable number of total douchebags. I have never seen so many dirtbags sneaking soju into bars and restaurants. Have some dignity, people! It looks bad, it looks cheap, it reeks of college drinking (you aren't in college any more).

Not that they were necessarily Busan residents- I am sure a lot of foreigners from all over Korea end up there drinking on the weekend.

Korean "beach season" doesn't really start until July. Only crazy foreigners would be silly enough to go to the beach in June. Go back in a few weeks and you'll see a lot more Koreans there.

Just foreigners? Well of course!

People from all over the world are flocking to the world-famous Haeundae beach! No other beach provides such wonderful, beautiful scenery: endless rows of umbrellas so thick you cannot even see the beach, women nicely covered up in winter clothing (even though it's summer), and a sea full of inflatable yellow tubes so thick it's like a game of bumper cars!

The world has no beach like this, and this is why tourists all over the world are clamoring to stay at ... Haeundae!

Who needs space when you have people!? Tens of thousands of them, all in one place! Makes girl-watching great... especially for those conservative types who despise bikinis! The purity and innocent moral brilliance of wearing a long sleeved shirt, long pants, and a winter hat (with a blanket wrapped around your neck) is the best way to spend your time under an umbrella which just happens to be under the sun! And who needs to smell the ocean when all you can smell is an overpowering nasal wonderment of sunscreen!

Yes, Haeundae! The finest beach not only in Korea, but the WORLD!

Rated the #1 beach in the world by BOTH the Islamic World Travel Magazine AND the Korean Cancer Prevention association! Also a contender for the Korea Pride About Foreigners Visiting Korea award!

i was just there last weekend. it was my 8th trip. i still dig it. i've never been there in July/August and i would never go there then having seen the pictures, but it June it's great. yeah, there's something of a douchebag element, but consider the alternative. i've been to lots of beaches outside Busan, and they are all exactly the same. no bars at all, no food variety, generally nothing but a row of overpriced raw fish joints, each one offering the exact same menu at the exact same inflated price. on most Korean beaches, your drinking/dining options are:
a. $40-60 per person at a hoe place, or
b. ramen at Family Mart.

plus, if you think the K girls cover up at Haeundae... it's Rio compared to Namhae or Gangneung or Sokcho.

Every meathead in Busan hangs out at Wolfhound now. The music is good there but the crowd is terrible.

Haeundae, especially Wolfhound and Rock n Roll house are massive douchebag magnets. Beer pong and shirts off competing to see who can be the loudest. Grow the hell up.

Guys...little hint...its summer and Haeundae is a beach area. Wink

Hence, there may be a few more foreigners about considering the fact that they just might be attracted to the beach there. Laughing

As for Haeundae vs Itaewon...no comparison really.

One is a beach front neighborhood with a boardwalk and hotels. The other is a foreigner hub with a pretty seedy underbelly. Each has its uses and attractions of course.

As for the young foreigner fresh grads...again, what did you expect: beach + bars + more disposable income they ever had = continue the frat party. Laughing
