It's rainy season, and that means time to watch some movies! I'd like to catch up on my Korean movie watching, and am downloading Adjossi right now. But was wondering if there are any other movies you'd recommend? I'd say that most Korean movies I've seen (aside from the comedies, just don't seem to be for me) are pretty good. Very high quality, and easily the best foreign movies out there right now.

Here are some movies I quite liked:

Welcome to Dongmakgol

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0475783/combined

Old Boy
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0364569/combined

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0374546/combined

Marathon
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0448621/combined

Sympathy for Lady Vengeance
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0310775/combined

TaegukGi
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0386064/combined

Swiri (Shiri)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0192657/combined

That's a must-see list. Most of those are older, but great. But I'm just not that aware of what is new... any suggestions?

Also: There was a Korean-Vietnamese co-production which just blew my mind. And I mean, this is one of the greatest foreign films I've seen in years. It's called Floating Lives and takes place in Vietnam. Brilliant movie.

This has been done to death, but because there's no K-movie sticky, I'll add to the list. Watch these 4, you won't be disappointed.

Peppermint Candy

The Isle

JSA

Things I've watched lately that I really liked.

The Yellow Sea (2010)
The Man From Nowhere (2010)
A Bittersweet Life (2005)
The Chaser (2008)
Bedevilled (2010)
Hahaha (2010)
Harmony (2010)
Secret Reunion (2010)
A Brand New Life (2009)
Breathless (2008)
Searching for the Elephant (2009)

I'm horrible at remembering titles so all of that comes from my download folder. I also see movies in dvd bangs occasionally, but I can't remember any titles. I'm also a sucker for k-gangster and anything north korea related so some of these selections may not be spectacular.

It's funny that most of the films listed are by the same two directors.

Adjossi was good. I think another interesting one was called I saw the devil or something. Both fairly new.

"I saw the Devil" is good, but be warned, it's not a date movie (unless you have a Korean gothic g/f). Think "Se7en" for the effect, though not the plot.

Funny, I thought it was pretty bad. Other than being a vehicle to deliver the star to his mass of fans, what was good about it?

Actually, I've been disappointed by most of the recent Korean releases. Very few ones worth watching IMO after 2005.

you know.. for me I am not really into the modern style Korean stories
If I watch a Korean a movie, it's usually a period piece.
modern movies are just way over the top and so unbelievable.

I like Korean movies, but they sometimes have some disturbing themes. Incest, sex with minors, rape, brutal revenge and bloody murder, etc.

Come on not at least one recommendation just a complaint.

I like Indian movies, but they sometimes have some dancing and singing at strange times.

I like American movies, but they sometimes have some disturbing themes like drugs, sex and violence.
