|
|
I'm curious, since I've only lived in Daegu, and only traveled around the southeast (Busan, Gyeongju, and Jinju), what people think is the nicest city.
My favorite place I've seen is Jinju Castle but I don't like the town itself. I feel like Gyeongju is overrated though I like the park and museum. I absolutely love Busan, but I've never lived there and never been there more than two nights. I've yet to find anything I really like about Daegu.
So yeah, what's the nicest place you've been (any place)?
Also, what about just the major cities (the metropolitan cities and Jeju)?
Regards,

After seven years on the mainland I moved to Seogwipo City on Jeju because I thought it the nicest little city in the whole country (and I've visited almost all of them in the coastal provinces). I've been here since '09 and will stay at least until early '13. Come visit and see how nice it is! |

I'm partial to Busan myself. Still has the big city feel but moves at a slower pace than Seoul. The air and the city itself is considerably cleaner than Seoul. Plus it is on the ocean and I enjoy seeing the palm trees. Also, they have awesome fresh seafood, which is a big plus for me. I have only worked in the northern part of South Korea but I would love to move down south soon.
A few months ago I went to Jeju. I really enjoyed the island. I think it would be great to work there for a year. After that I would imagine it would get a little boring though. |

I've been to most of the larger cities (Daejeon, Busan, Gwangju, Incheon) and visited a ton of the smaller cities (Jeju, Andong, Geoje, Tongyeong, Andond, Seokcho, Gyeonju, etc) and I've lived in Seoul and Daegu.
Not saying this counts for anything, just putting it out there.
Anyhow, unless you really don't like living in the city, by far Seoul and Busan with Seoul being ranked much further ahead.
There are just so many more options for everything. Nightlife, culture, outdoor activities (yes I'd say Seoul has most cities beat), shopping, food, everything. |

Nothing personal but lets stop referring to Bundang as a city. Bundang is a "Gu" out of 3 in Seongnam city. |

The people of Bundang don't actually enjoy being clumped up with Seongnam (source: Korean that owns a hogwan in Bundang) because they are rich, and Seongnam is not.
Besides it basically is a city, has pretty much everything. |

The question was "which is the nicest city", not "which Korean city seems most like Chicago". I really dig Jeonju in Jeollabuk-do. It's got a great lil traditional-looking housing development with cute shops and a fun downtown area. Best bibimbap in Korea...Whaaaaaat! |
