Currently I have a KEB account, unfortunately I am leaving in 3 weeks and will no longer have an ARC. This means my bank account will be tied to an AR number that is no longer valid, and eventually may be closed.
I asked if I could tie the account to my passport instead. Sure, no problem except with only a passport I can't get a digital certificate issued. That means no online banking at all.
To top it off, even assuming the account isn't initially closed, my present digital certificate expires in August. That means that I won't be able to transfer money out of the account, abroad, after August.
I'm worried about the US dollar tanking even more, and I believe the Korean WON will strengthen. This leads to the conclusion that I should keep my holdings in Korean WON. Exchange rates for Korean WON --> USD in the US are horrible.
So here is what I want: an international banking account that only requires my passport information, with online banking, that I can open here in Korea and has an honest Korean WON to USD exchange rates. I'll have my school deposit my severance and final paycheck in it, transfer my current savings to it, and close all my other accounts. This should allow remittance.
Do any of the Korean banks have such accounts? How about citi bank? |
