The original thread is a 23 page mess of information. I need to send mine out ASAP, but doing it from Korea seems kind of complicated.

1.get fingerprinted on FBI paper. Check
2. Print off all the application forms, fill out credit card info. Check
3. I've got my Fed Ex on standby, but im confused on the next part.

I need an apostille, but how to get my check from the FBI to the US State Dept? They mail it back to Korea and I mail it back? That's pretty absurd.

I hire an apostille service? seems expensive.

Have it sent to parents, have parents mail it to US Dept of State? still pretty time consuming.

Is there a good way to do thins from Korea?

Write a letter to accompany your request. You send this letter out with the figerprints, credit card form, etc. Say that you need an FBI seal because you'll be submitting it for an apostille.

I personally didn't send my results to the feds, but had it sent to my parents' address, who then went to the apostille office in my state. How you get it apostilled depends on your state and its procedures. Some states say you mail it in, other states want you to show up in person, etc.

If you need it mailed to a specific place for the apostille, write that as the address you want it sent to. But, include all forms/documents needed to obtain that apostille.

I was under the impression that a federal check needed to be apostilled by the feds and states wouldnt touch them. Maybe its different by state. Ill probably just bite the bullet and pay the 200 bucks to get this done quick. fucking ridiculous.

Can anyone recommend a good apostille service for the fbi to state department? Or just one that worked.

This is just the time to get the FBI background check. 7 weeks. If you're overseas in South Korea, what you would do is forward the background check to an apostille agency address like Apostille Pros, www.apostillepros.com

They will get it notarize and apostille and mail it via FEDEX to South Korea. This process takes 2-3 days from the time they receive it. So 7 weeks for the FBI background check and 2-3 days for the notary and apostille to be sent to South Korea.

If you're in the U.S., you can do it yourself or have an apostille agency do it for you.

For FBI background check prints, just look at your prints, if the prints are smeared, do it again cause the FBI operator won't be able to match the prints to their database; then you're just going to wait another 7 weeks. So the important part is the taking the prints on the FD-258 card or the online printable fingerprint paper.

Thanks. I happened to go that route already. A bit expensive, but what can you do when you need it rushed.

State department is like taking 2 months to process now, and they don't even bother to answer their phones. Its so frustrasting.

I bit the bullet and did it Wednesday, I need it fast.

Apostillepros= $15 (FBI Check) + $175 (apostille)+ $65 (Fedex back)= $255

FBI check $18

Fedex mailing $30

Total=$303.00

Thanks immigration.

I think last time--for the normal CBC--I was able to go to downtown Los Angeles and get it appostilled in person, does this sound right? It's been a year so some of the procedures are a little fuzzy. But anyway, can I do this again for the FBI CBC once I get it sent to me?

Quick question: can I get both my degree and FBI background check apostilled by my state? or do I need to send the background check to the US secretary of state and my degree to my secretary of state separately?

I live in California. We don't have to go to the state Dept. in DC. There are 2 ways to get an apostille in CA.

1. Get all documents (FBI and COPY of degree) notarized.

2. send it into SACREMENTO sec. of state office by mail or walk into office. Fees apply. turn around time is officially one week by mail. Walk ins take 10 minutes

OR

1. Get all documents (FBI and COPY of degree) notarized.

2. Go to the county or city clerks office where the person notarizing your forms was certified. Have the county clerk sign off on the person's notary status.

3. Walk into Los Angeles branch of Sec. of state office and pay for the apostille. FEES APPLY. Walk out 15 minutes with apostille.

4. go get wasted

I spoke to a woman in the SEc of States office in sacremento 2 weeks ago. She gave me the info on everything.

That sounds expensive. US Legalization only charges a service fee of $37 to get a federal document apostilled and the processing time is one business day.

Did you use US Legalization Kepler? That looks like a great option to me.

How much time do you have? Id have the FBI mail the results to someone back in your home country (your parents) or preferably some good friend who lives near DC, as its the DOS in DC youll need to send it to.
