tried to search for this but i couldn't find anything. i think maybe i just am dumb with the search option on the forums.
the question is: are passengers allowed to drink in the back of a car or van if the driver has had nothing to drink? i see people drinking on buses all the time, wasn't sure about in a car.
thanks |

I drank sprite in the back of a taxi the other day without incident. Ba-dum-ching! "똑바로. 왼쪽. 여기."
Unfortunately, my knowledge of this country only comes from experience and from what I've witnessed. I used to ask Koreans things, but almost always, I was given shielded answers intended to make me sound weird for even asking. I no longer ask Koreans anything unless I have absolutely no choice. They like to take the opportunity to talk to you like you've never learned anything in your entire life! They don't ask anything, because nothing exists beyond the shores of the wonderful, perfect, dynamic, global Korea, right? Ignorance is bliss. |

It's clear that the driver is not involved in drinking on buses or in taxis.
Personal vehicles might be another story altogether, but unless something happens, I can't see anyone enforcing something like that here. |

From the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's "Foreigner's Room" forum:
Q: Is it legal for passengers to drink alcohol in a car? I know that the driver cannot consume alcohol, but what about the other people?
A: We welcome your visiting the SMPA homepage. For the passengers' safty, the drinking in a car is prohibited by the law, for the person who is a driver or not. For the further information, you'd better call the Traffic Safety Division in SMPA, 2-700-5010. Thank you.
