Screw all that. When I was a little kid back then I was listening to Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica, and other metal like that. Also rap like LL Cool J, NWA, Too Short, De La Soul. And punk like Op Ivy, Black Flag, The Germs, etc.

There is a glam rock resurgence in the US right now. People wearing tight jeans and dressing glam style even with make-up and big hair and high top shoes. You all should get hip with the times and start dressing like that too.

That's where the usual 20 year cycle (give or take 5 years either way) comes into play. I seriously hate the idea of 80's hair coming back in style.

I remember my first concert (where I wanted to go see the band, not one where my brother dragged me along). Joan Jett in the summer of 82. I was 10. I caught her and the Black Hearts again 2002.

My brother dragged me to Aerosmith in the late 70's. Permanent Vacation made them semi-cool. It seemed like they matured with me.

I'd love to see some more 80's affiliated supergroups.

You got it wrong Itaewon... G n R = not glam. They were crazy booze hounds and junky's and *beep* magnets who put out 2 incredible Rock albums (Appetite & Lies) and Motley Crue? Not glam dude. They looked glam but their music was FAR from it... even Lemmy said so... Whitesnake ( I bought it oops) but Coverdale was not bad and was in the game before MTV... Hysteria was good... Skid Row was kinda sick and Sebastian Bach was good friends with Pantera who has some glammy old school shit before Cowboys... what is wrong with acid washed jeans? It was the faggy capitalizers like White Lion and Nelson even cherry pie poison (Kiki rocks though man) that blew it... it is MTV on cocaine's fault. Ozzy...way off.

My first concert was Pan F'in Tera!

Pantera rules, that concert was brutal. That's REAL metal. Real metal makes you wanna go crazy and destroy. It doesn't make you wanna sing a ballad.

I used to play guitar in a crappy heavy metal band by the way. Anyone else?

I think, for rock, the 80s was very overrated - and very little of the stuff that has lasting respectability wasn't glam. That said, the 80s glam metal guys were fun and I could list maybe 10 songs I think are classics from the genre. The fundamental problem with the genre is that it went on way too long - from the mid-70s to 1990. Considering glam metal bands hardly wrote varied material, it's a bit boring to say the least. Same high-pitched vocals, same boring guitar solos - boring. Compare that to the short-lived punk, new wave, grunge or psychedelia movements, which produced much more in 20% of the time.

Yeah but while the 80's bands were copying a particular genre theme, the grunge guys were copying either Nirvana or Pearl Jam. That's probably why it was over in 20% of the time.

I've just listened to the 'Long Cold Winter' album by Cinderella and at least half the album is surprisingly good.

Sigue Sigue Sputnik = glam, rock and roll. Better than the Sex Pistols, but nobody dare say it in public.

Interesting concept/marketing behind SSS, but not as important as the Pistols, wouldn't you agree? Good use of hair product 'tho, and kinda neat that Tony James ended up with Andrew Eldritch for a while. Maybe he could lose some weight, get his face reconstructed, come back as a K-pop idol, and get fawned over by the geek crowd.

I suppose it depends on what you define as important. It sounds like a cliche when they talk about how important the Pistols were. Sadly, they inspired many bands that thought rebellion was all about looking untidy and acting deranged.

Andrew Eldritch used to be so stylish, then he discovered cookies. I was never a goth fan, but he used to take pride in his appearance.

I prefer Sputnik's music and sense of humour. They were a complete send-up of all the stupidity that comes with celebrity.

I find the Pistols music to be a bit depressing.

Slade. According to Wikipedia, they were the band Kiss wanted to be. Anyway, genuine musical talent and Noddy Holder had a cracking voice.
