They don't have to pay severance at the end of the contract if you are renewing. The law about severance pay is pretty clear. You get the money when you stop working for them. Some hagwon owners apparently are willing to pay out each year, because it saves them a bit of money in the long run. However there is no legal requirement for them to do so, even if you request it. |

Even with that there can be problems.
Either get severance or have it written in the contract that you will be paid within 14 days. |
