Busan's 3rd Annual Mayors International Surfing Championship cancelled due to big waves

http://www.busanhaps.com/article/surfers-battle-storm-and-shutdown

I swear this should be an article in the Onion!

Thanks to an ignorant, unnecessarily fearful beach patrol force and a boneheaded, lazy bureaucracy, the surf comp was called off over fear of the big waves that the surfing community was actually hoping for.

FAIL!

In previous years, the Busan Beach Patrol has been criticized for being overly aggressive in closing the beaches to all water activity when the surf/waves rise above the 'pitifully small' category.
The thinking, I guess, is that no one can swim well. If they go in the water, they'll die.
I can't stand the blanket policy for everyone!

For me, above pushy ajummas, crazy drivers, and deskwarming, the worst thing about Korea is the beach police.

Being forced to swim in designated roped-off areas that are too shallow tread water in and too packed to float is ridiculous. And not allowing people to swim outside of these areas (even on non-crowded beaches) drives me absolutely crazy.

Ahhh, Koreans and water. Worse than cats.

I'm surprised they don't cancel baseball and soccer games when the pollen count is high.

I've had the same exact experience with those dudes. You swim out to get away from all the kids and they start with the whistles and the waving.

This is just another example of Korean logic that'll keep me smiling to myself all week.

Better cancel the surf competition in case there are actually some waves, lol. Laughing
