Am in the US and getting calls and text messages from Korea on my SK Galaxy S. Wife says her KT texts are free to receive but I am on SK. Got a message in Korean saying I will be charged something like 12 thousand won plus per day or something if I use Roam. But I want Roam disabled and just want wifi features on this phone here. Tried everything in settings I can find. Turned roaming data off. But still getting calls and texts from home. Afraid to get a huge bill!! The phone automatically connects to local phone towers in the USA using local partner provider AT&T.

What can I do to be sure a I am not getting charged?? Thanks!

They have a rate calculator on their website for each country. I can't seem to link directly to it because of horrible Korean website design choices, but you can find it at www.tworld.co.kr. They also have an andoid app for this called T-Roaming that you can download from the T-store.

Anyway, the basic rates for roaming in the USA are...

Receiving calls 1,214 won/minute
Sending calls within the USA 1,100 won/minute
Sending international calls (including to Korea) 2,200 won/minute

Sending text (Worldwide) 150 won
Receiving text - free

Data 4.55 won/packet

Sending text seems pretty reasonable to me, but making calls or using data could rack up a large bill very quickly.

I don't know about the text message you received about a 12,000 won daily charge. There certainly isn't any mention of that on the website, and from my own past roaming experiences I was never charged anything like that.

As long as you turn 3g data off, you can stick the sim card back in and be safe. Receiving text is free, and you won't be charged for any calls unless you choose to answer them.

thanks. Surfing is twice as fast without the SIM card. Wow! All of the phones functions are generally faster by a wide margin. Might just keep it out while here!
