If you have been here for a long time and don't have a bank account at home, what are your options?

You can have it sent to your Korean account...but what if you won't be in Korea long enough after getting your plane ticket to get the cash then transfer it home?

Will they let you designate say your father or brother's account and send it there (I assume you add some extra forms to fill out to authorize or whatnot)?

What are your options here?

But seriously there must be lots of long termers who don't have an account back home.

Not sure I can open one up back home without being there....

You can always set up an account when you get home and then apply for your pension.

I decided to go the office today.

They seem to have a new system.

First, they actually now have a way to check for your actual departure and won't transfer money to even a Korean account until AFTER you have left.

Second, you are right that you can apply after you get home via a consulate.

But third, you can apply from here with your ticket and no bank account and they will courrier a check. It will get there about 3-4 weeks after your aactual departure is confirmed.

OFC as with all Korean agencies, your mileage may vary. Maybe other clerks won't follow the new rules or maybe she was misinformed about them. *shrug* But it was two clerks and the manager all working with me...so seems like it is a new policy.
