I'm applying to go back to Korea and have received my RCMP background check and sent it off to the Montreal Korean consulate. However, the document the RCMP gave me is a copy of the original as they said it is RCMP policy to no longer give the original CBC back to the applicant. The Korean consulate won't accept the copy. Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience and what I should do about it...

I had an E2 visa last year as well, which just finished on June 13th, but no one seems to have a copy of the Canadian CBC I submitted last year either.

Not really sure what to do here...

This is interesting. Did you go to your local RCMP detachment, or did you send away for the fingerprint check? As far as I know (speaking from experience), the local detachments print off an original while you wait, and this one was good enough to get me my visa in March.

Not necessary to take it to the Korean consulate anyway. Just getting it stamped at the Canadian embassy in Seoul is all you need.

Who cares what the Korean consulate will or will not accept (they seem to have different rules than Immigration); it is Immigration who will accept the CBC.

Actually, Kimmi now requires a Korean consulate certified CBC from Canadians (in place of the apostille). They will no longer accept embassy notarized CBCs for new visa applications (as of Dec. 2010) and for those who have not submitted a consulate certified copy you only have until the end of 2011 to get one on file (2011 is your grace period to get one).

Not what I was told last month. I was told (by three separate Kimmi officers over the course of two days) the embassy in Seoul is all I need. But I am not applying for a NEW visa, so that may be the difference.
