Anyone ever tried, or know someone who's tried, craigslist for PT one-on-one work, voice work, video work, etc.? Are the people who post there, especially for PT 1-2-1 work legitimate? |

Are you talking about private tutoring? If so I would urge caution, assume everything is a trap, craigslist is the name of Admiral Ackbar's ship. |

What's your visa status? If you have an Fvisa then just contact them and see how it goes. If you have an E2 remember that it's illegal and proceed with caution. |

A lot of advertisers are now stating that they require permission from employers before taking you on.
I've heard rumours of entrapment before. Do you think these are genuine or simply urban legends? |

There were several hundred teachers who got bagged by immigration when David Kang was caught recruiting PT teachers on E2s for illegal work (2004/5)
That was no urban legend.
Kimmi also did stings in the late 90's (just before the IMF crisis) when it was an issue (too many teachers and too few visas), 2002 (just before the election), 2004 and 2005.
Entrapment is a possible defense against criminal liability in some countries however, there is no entrapment where a person is ready and willing to break the law and the government agents merely provide what appears to be a favorable opportunity for the person to commit the crime
If you respond to the ad and show up for work you have committed the crime. If there happens to be an immigration agent instead of a student there when you arrive then OOPS, your mistake - YOU ARE BUSTED. Call it a sting operation.
