"So you're a nervous, depressed schizo - moving halfway around the world to a totally new culture/ working environment seems like a really good idea!"
I'm not schizophrenic. Seroquel helps me sleep at night and it relieves some of my bipolar symptoms. Of course if I was schizophrenic, teaching overseas would be out of the question. Your sincere empathy and compassion must make you a hit with the locals over there. It's all good though. I know you meant well and I appreciate everyone's advice. |
I was in the same boat, too: suffered from anxiety/mania/sleeplessness, and was given a similar drug.
Don't be so quick to judge people! |

some people need drugs to cope but the vast majority have bought into the marketing of the medical machine and are a bunch of lab rats. i really worry when i hear people say that they need drugs from their doctor for the rest of their life. find help from people that dont rty to addict you to drugs... drugs only mask the symptoms without solving the problem.
95% or more of people on anti-depressants are taking drugs they dont need to fill the pockets of big pharma-wake the frig up people.
life has bad feelings and good feelings if you didnt try to supress the feelings you dont like they would just pass like the weather.
sorry to people that really have depression but this is the big suck in of the last 15 years or so by drug companies and their pushers in the white coats.
i like in china how they regulate the drugs and dont let patients have more than two weeks dosage.
the docs in the states put people on them until they think they need them for years or life.
what a friggin joke-sort your stuff out back home and if you can cope without drugs then do some travelling and teaching. |

Anyway, not to criticize, but if a person does not have any experience living overseas and has depression or the like, I would be careful to recommend starting things off in Korea. There is a ton of potential, alien stress awaiting people who come here, especially for those who have no experience with teaching kids or Asian countries. Going overseas for the first time is just plain stressful no matter how you slice it.
cchoe27, just do your homework before coming re: meds, getting them, stigmas. There's some great advice in the thread already posted for you. |

well you just spoke like someone who knows absolutely nothing about me. I have helped over 1000 people off their mind numbing drugs. If you mean knowing nothing to be not agreeing with the status quo of the drug companies that you got me.
But if you want to spend years studying the human condition and understanding emotions and why people are attracted to taking drugs then we can talk.
Otherwise you are just some idiot that believes that mommy and daddy drug company and Dr. have your best interests at heart.
anti-depressants are not needed for 95% of people that take them. Changes in lifestyle and eating and drinking habits are needed as well as education on how to feel and deal with emotions.
People with very low awareness take and believe in drugs. Its a no brainer for people who understand what drugs do in our bodies. Idiots who think they know because the experts tell them are of low awareness. Believe me the majority of esl teachers fall into the category of idiots who go to doctors for presciptions for various things.
You defend ideas giving to you as second hand knowledge as if they are truths.
If you delve deeper into the subject with an open mind it is a no brainer that drugs are over prescibed and the motivation is sales not people.
There are plently of books written by gps who have had enough of this anti-depressant craze and have spilled the beans on how they are being pushed on millions of people that dont need them.
so nice comment their idiot-whats your background in healthcare. |
