I bought the 3g model and never use the 3g function. I mean, if I were traveling a LOT and had absolutely no access to a computer with internet service, the 3g would make sense, but, otherwise, it's a waste of the extra money. I just ordered my husband one and got him the wifi model. I should have done the same for myself when I ordered mine.
I often torrent books, or buy them on my computer and have them sent to my kindle email over wifi. A good idea is to fill it up with books to last a while, rather than one at a time. I've got enough books to last me a few months, and more in storage on my computer for the next batch.
Of course, it helps to have a wireless router at home. Still, plugging a cord into a computer's usb port isn't very difficult. |

You could load up your Kindle with thousands of books. You wouldn't NEED 3G unless you wouldn't have access to the net for months, if not years (assuming you only read books). Now if you want to read newspapers or magazines on your Kindle, then that's a different story.
I think I've connected my wi-fi model like 3 times ever. I prefer it off to conserve battery life. |
