Am I mistaken, or is this stuff alright? I used to like drinking Prime, which I think was made by Hite - it was a pure malt lager. But between 2006, and 2010, when I went back to the UK, Prime disappeared, for some reason.
I think OB Golden is a new thing - at any rate I've not noticed in the shops until recently. Anyway, I like it - how about you? |

| yeah OB Gold is my beer of choice, especially from a can. Hite isn't so bad on a hot day, as long as it's ice-cold and from a glass bottle. Max and Cass are piss no matter what. |

I drink it in my local Korean bar and have a few in the fridge chilling when for when required.
However, when there's a foreign lager/beer on offer I'll take it over the OB gold anyday. |

D is the only Korean beer I'll drink. Reminds me of American beers like bud light (which isn't bad but are at least better than Cass, etc.), it goes well with the summer.
I'll have to try this though. |

Sad as it might sound, d and OB Golden Lager are the best widely-available domestic beers to be had in Korea. I just switched to makkeoli since Korean bars usually just carry Hite or Cass  |

OB Golden Lager, Hite D, and Stout are currently the most drinkable beers in Korea.
This situation is ideal, but it sure beats a few years ago.
I miss seeing Exfeel (before it turned into a Hite S Fiber beer) and Red Rock in bottles. bottled red rock was a lot better than the stuff commonly found on tap. |

Prime is still here, they just changed the name to Max a few years ago.
I would also like to issue a challenge to you folks who think Hite D is the best or OB Gold is awesome or whatever.
Can you reliably tell the difference between your fancy Hite D or OB Gold and regular old Cass or Hite in a double-blind taste test? I've tried this with several friends, both Korean and foreign and no one has passed yet. Same piss, different label. Oh the power of marketing. |

I'm not at all exposed to Korean marketing as I don't watch TV. Also, I don't see how these beers are fancy considering they're the same price as Hite/Cass.
D is a bit more of a dry (OK, that's a marketing term) beer. OB Gold is a bit sweeter. Hite/Cass taste the same as they did 10 years ago.
Maybe your friends don't have discriminating tastes. I wonder if they'd even be able to tell a Heineken apart from a Korean brewed Budweiser. |

I was using the word fancy sarcastically since a lot of people here are trying to claim they're somehow better than the standard Korean beers, but I don't buy it. The truth is that taste is a lot more psychological than people realize. Everyone thinks they can taste the difference, but few actually can when they can't see the label. The most famous experiments done on this are Pepsi vs. Coke. Almost everyone has a preference for one or the other and is sure they can taste the difference but when put to the test most people fail. I'm not saying don't drink OB Gold, especially since it's the same price, but let's not pretend it's any better than it really is... just another cheap crappy Korean beer. |

Yea I'll take that test. Cass has a TERRIBLE after taste and every time I swallow I want to vomit. I only drink that stuff unless we're at a fried chicken restaurant or something because that's sometimes all they have.

Actually the heineken here is korean brewed as well. |

Where do you people live and where do you people come from? Are you serious? ALL Korean beer is horse piss. I have to admit, I have easy access to Craftworks, which is probably the best beer on the Penninsula, but even if I don't make it into there, I will make the effort to find anything else other than Korean swill. Korean beer is designed for primitive, undeveloped palates. Moreover E-Mart has German beer for 1650won a king can. Thai is CHEAPER than Korean beer. There is no excuse for Korean beer. |

OB Golden Lager is not bad at all. If I had to drink one Korean beer it would be that one.
Max is alright too as is the Stout; Hite D was a let down, tasted like a mix of 70% dry beer and 30% sparkling water.
Had a bottle of Kirin last night, which is on a different level to Korean beer.
5 bottles of Kirin for 10,000 at Homeplus is a great deal. |
