I'm bringing my 360 I bought in 2007 with me and it sounds like it's best to buy a Korean brick once I get there.
Is my 360 too old to use the Korean brick?
If it's not too old, how do I get the Korean brick and how long will it take? |
buy a 2KVA step-down transformer here. it'll cost u less than buying the korean brick, and will also save u a lot of headaches in trying to locate one. |

Where do you suggest I'll be able to find one? Thank you for the tip. |

they're called 가정용(ga-jeong-yong)소형(so-hyeong)변압기(byeon-ap-gi) in korean. ask a co-worker where to find one. easiest place is a neighbourhood electronics place(i'm talking about old-skool electronics places), but you can get them on the internet(cheaper), or at e-mart, homeplus, or wherever.

the label there says "down yong", so that would probably suffice in a shop. |

Thank you very much. That's an awesome description. Next step will be figuring out how to get logged onto xbox live. |

When I bought a US XBox, the transformer didn't work for it. It MAY be because something was wrong with the power brick (console works fine with a new Korean one btw), but it could also be that the Xbox is a little power hog and it was too much for the transformer.
Not sure if others have had luck with US power bricks and transformers. |

I'm using a 1kva transformer and it has been working fine with my American Xbox 360. I can even plug in the old HD DVD drive at the same time. The 360 doesn't use that much power although when spinning up a disc it certainly sounds like it should. |

Just out of curiosity, what would happen if I plugged in my xbox without a step down transformer? |

if it's a North American power brick(NEARLY all are only for 120V), and u just put a simple korean plug adapter on it, the brick will fry, but the 360 will b fine. then, ur on the hunt for a korean power brick again... |

From the email I got from Xbox Customer Support...

The best option for this kind of issue is to contact the Xbox Support line in Korea. I have provided the contact details for you below:
Phone support is available.
. Customer service operating hours: Monday to Friday (09:00 to 18:00), Saturday (09:00 to 12:00), public holidays, except Sundays
Phone Number
. 080 791 0880 (toll free) / 02-3483-7138 (General Telephone) |
Since I was out of region, I was no longer covered by warranty. I had to transfer 39,280 won to their bank account for the new brick.
Microsoft doesn't seem to sell (or allow third parties to sell) Xbox accessories like this in stores. |

Thanks for the information! I've seen a few 3rd party power bricks online, but they look way too sketchy. It's one thing if you're buying a controller, but I don't want to cheap out when it comes to voltage.
Thanks again! |

I just arrived in Cheonan today and went to the local e-mart looking for the step down transformer posted above but had no luck. It's my first day ever in South Korea and I understand none of the language, but I showed a guy in the electronics department the picture and from the best of my abilities they don't have carry them.
I'm really anxious to play xbox to alleviate some stress of being in a completely new place, but my better judgement, and the advice of those already posted here, tells me not to plug in my power brick into the US power strip I brought with me.
I'm meeting my fellow foreign teachers tomorrow, so hopefully one of them can help me out finding the transformer locally. |

the reason i mentioned emart was because someone else on here once said they're easy to get at those places...but perhaps only in bigger places like seoul? anyway, get a korean(or foreign) co-worker to help you find a 철물점(cheol-mool-jeom) in ur city. i got mine at a place like that here in busan. my wife said that most of them will carry the transformers...ie, no guarantee that you'll find one in the first place you try. do NOT plug it in the way it is now, or you won't b playing for a longer period of time. sleep on it, and find it tomorrow.
don't know exactly where u r in cheonan, but seems to b a lot in the Dongnamgu area...

I too am going to SK soon and would like to take my US Xbox.
After reading this thread I am confused about the ways of doing this....
so all we need to do is get a Korean xbox brick? Or is there another way? |
