I was the only foreign teacher at my previous GEPIK school. I had the worst experience.
Co-teacher: She didn't know I work here, literally.
VP: Completely ignored me because he was an ignorant workoholic. He enjoyed emotionally raping the librarian. He never spoke to a kid of his own school despite that he was working at a very small school of 80~90 students.
Other teachers: think of me as a strange Gyopo because of how I piss-poorly speak Korean, make fun of me for being so ignorant about Korea. |

Only a nice fat cultural barrier to insulate and square you off from your own inadequacies..
Shame for your poor Korean co-teacher who thinks you the standard much vaunted foreigner and trying to obey her instructions to get along at all costs!!
Enjoy while it lasts!! |
Yea, I actually do my job, and have dealt with other people who clearly don't. I guess that makes me inadequate. It's a shame I have problems with foreigners who come to class late and hungover several times.
Maybe, I don't like being in places where people are clearly lying, and not doing there jobs. Yea it's a poor shame that my Korean co teacher doesn't have me show up 30 minutes hungover late to class on several occasions. And, you bet I will enjoy this while it lasts. I don't have time for people who act like morons. |
Look, I'll agree that ever being late for class isn't something to be recommended.
But the other instances that you cite:
'lost in the mountains before first day'.... To me is funny and should have gone into the lore of that particular hakwon, the story to be retold every social occasion. In any event, at a hakwon practically every day is a day before work. Full marks to the intrepid teacher for adventurism, probably an outstanding teacher.
'bang the head teacher'. That's just blarney and shows good spirit and mongrel, attributes sorely needed in Korea. No need to mention that she was divorced with a 5 year old as if to bolster your case.
'something's going to happen, but I don't know what.' I've often heard people speak like this, as though there's something in the air. Just normal banter. |
