Come on, that guy is great! Korea needs more well-known street weirdos. And I have seen that guy FAR from hongdae selling his wares. Unfortunately I can't remember where, but I was shocked to see him.

A couple of points about makkeoli:

If you read the label on some of the more popular brands, you'll see that they contain aspartame. Extremely bad for your health! Avoid!

Yes, there are restaurants with connections to places that make the real old-fashioned, addiditive-free stuff. I went to lunch one day to such a place, with a Kookmin bank manager. Just amazing! It was like going from rotgut booze to Johnnie Walker Blue Label. This makkeoli had a rich, creamy texture in the mouth, almost no perceptible taste of alcohol (alarmingly!), and settled well in my stomach. I've been wanting to get my hands on some of that stuff ever since.

Don't ask me about the Hongdae guy though. I have no idea.

Please link one single peer reviewed study, that proves this claim.

Oh, he may be the coolest dude on the planet, but can you trust his home made brew? Oh, and what does it taste like? Burning?

This would be a good place to start:

http://dorway.com/dorwblog/aspartame-the-bad-news-repost/peer-reviewed-aspartame-studies/

SURVEY OF ASPARTAME STUDIES:
CORRELATION OF OUTCOME AND FUNDING SOURCES

Department of Psychiatry
Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine

ABSTRACT
Studies of aspartame in the peer reviewed medical literature were surveyed for funding source and study outcome. Of the 166 studies felt to have relevance for questions of human safety, 74 had Nutrasweet industry related funding and 92 were independently funded. One hundred percent of the industry funded research attested to aspartames safety, whereas 92% of the independently funded research identified a problem.

What do you do? work for aspartame? i laugh at people who think peer reviewed in the bees knees. peers are usually corrupt or stupid enough to follow each others ideas.

The Makkeoli Man is cool as sh!t. I've bought from him a few times, but I won't do that again. Not until he invests in a cooler or some ice to keep it cold.

Still more reliable then that guy on the forums saying it's bad for you.

Edit: peer reviewed studies are the MOST reliable sources of information, short of you doing a study yourself.

Back to the point.

Regardless of whether 5,000 won is not worth worrying about, the price is still too much.

The brand he sells maybe a popular brand BUT it is made from flour. Hence why it tastes like beep.

What brand does everyone enjoy drinking here? I like Seoul Makgoelli personally.

Intriguing that people could be down on The Makkoli Man. His makkoli, sure, but the guy himself? If anyone can ever confirm that they've seen him frown, please let us know. Maybe he's just too happy poisoning us with aspartame or ripping off our hard-earned 5,000 won notes, but I've never seen him unhappy.

I couldn't agree more! His Makkoli is sound also, no difference to what you would buy in family mart ect.
