Hello! I just arrived in Incheon last night.

I'm a 27 year old Canadian, with a serious girlfriend back home (she's coming here as well but not until October). My interests are anything sports related, hiking, sailing, I'm a gamer, I love to go out and have a few drinks when I can get away with it! I'm also a bit of a foody. I'm basically willing to try anything!

OK so being a newbie I know absolutely nothing about how to get by in Korea! There's only 1 other foreign teacher at my school who is not here yet (just me for now). My boss and the Korean teachers at my school are all very kind and helpful, but I would still like to find a few like-minded westerners to buddy up with! Also I would love it if someone could "show me the ropes" as in, where to buy groceries, where to eat korean/western/whatever, show me how to get around (subway/bus/taxi/whatever).

So if there's any takers just respond here or PM me. I know I'm asking a lot here, but I think I'm a pretty fun guy to be around, and to show my appreciation all drinks and food are on me! Very Happy

Anyways, first day at work today, my shift is supposed to be 2pm-9pm but I agreed to come in early today.

Cheers!

Hey how are you?

I am also a Canadian! I certainly know what it's like to be new here, and I took similar measures trying to get in touch with people when I first arrived as well. I can't say there was all that much success with the endeavor, however.

I could give you my life's story, but that's preferably done through PM. But, I can't PM because I haven't got enough posts yet. So why not email me at [email protected]?

I can show you "the ropes," and the free food sweetens the deal! Smile Where in Incheon are you located?

I hope your first day at work went well! Email me and I'll let you know more about me and what my personal situation in Korea has been like.

Talk soon!
Todd

This might be a HUGE coincidence or just my mind being simplistic, but you sound like my future work-mate!

I'm yet to leave to come to Korea (visa is being prepared) and I'm to start work at a school in Incheon where I was told I would be working with one other foreigner teacher who would just have arrived, and who is Canadian.

Are you really tall??

Is my mind playing tricks on me??!!!

I'm sure Incheon has LOADS of schools but this sounded too much like a coincidence for me not to comment! Smile

If I happen to be right, I'll see you in about 1.5 weeks hahaha!!! If not, maybe I can hit you up for showing me some ropes after I arrive!??!!

i used to live in incheon and there is a nice hike if you get off the seoul subway line at Dongam station. Look out the window to the south and you will see a hill with a pagoda. There are several trail entrances but the easiest is the one behind the school on the west side of the hill. It is a very popular hike on weekends and there is usually an ajima at the top selling drinks and small snacks. You can see all of incheon on a clear day. If you are interested pm me and I will draw on a screenshot from google earth for better directions.

Speedling, I just arrived here myself early June so I'm not sure how helpful I would be. I'm not Canadian but I'm the best America has got to offer, Montanan, and I'm always down to have a good drink. I'm 25, no serious lady friend, I gotta eat to survive and drinking here never hurts cause I don't work til 3 in the afternoon. I'm hanging out in the Nam-gu area between highway 110 and 120, west of Inha University. That's the best I can explain it. Let me know where you're hanging out at and we could always try to meet up.

In fact, this looks like a good thread maybe to start getting in touch with some other Incheon teachers. I haven't been able to find a thread for it on my own. If anyone else is nearby and would like to get some westerner contact time in let me know.

I can always be reached at my email [email protected]

ah songdo, nice. i've been that way a few times the last month. my boss lives out there so that's where we usually grab a drink after work. not a lot of nightlife over in my area. cheap taxi ride for me. i'm still not sure where speedling is tho.
