| Can anyone tell me the best way to approach this mountain? Not sure if I should try to get there via Seoul Nat'l University, or via Gwanak Station on Subway Line 1. Or is there some other way? |

| I like to get off at Seoul Nat'l. Univ. Station, then take a bus to the park entrance. Several city buses go there and it's about a ten minute ride. Then just buy your ticket and select whichever course up the mountain you like. Go down the other side and you can make your way to Kwacheon Station, which is about a ten-minute walk. |

| I'm pretty sure that you can go there from Sadang station too, exit 5,6 or 7, and walk up. I know there's a Buddhist temple on the hill, and from what I've been told, it gets kind of steep afterwards. |

Yep,
I live in Sadang and there is easy access from the station. Just get out at exit 5 or 6 and walk towards the mountain....or follow the hoards of hikers. There is a map near the station exit too but it's kind of crap. It's a good hike but it gets crazy busy....
Enjoy!

| Cool, thanks! I think I'll try and go through Sadang, probably come down a different way. |

| I haven't tried it yet but I'm pretty sure you can go up via Sadany and go down via Seoul Uni. It is probably a good two or three hour hike though. |

Hello,
last time I tried this hike I ended up at the second peak with the flag and missed the temple entirely. Can anyone tell me which approach is the best way to the temple, (preferably not the staircase though)
Thanks,

I've been told the 'ak' in mountain names means it's a steep mountain (Gwan-ak, Seor-ak etc) |

I did this this morning. I didn't see maps anywhere. I was hoping to end up at Seoul National U but ended up in Gwacheon. The bus connections were easy from there back to Sadang. My legs are killing me now. I haven't been doing enough exercising lately. Hopefully 3 and a half hours scrambling around on a mountain is a start. |

Yeah, there are so many routes up the mountain that it's easy to miss the main trail/s. If you're on the main route you should follow a paved road up to the Temple (can't remember the name). Before the temple there is a little booth where you have to pay admission (500 won). There is a large map at this entrance and some more basic ones along the way. As with most Korean maps, they are not very accurate.
There is an exit that pretty well leads you right to the road you have to take but I can't remember the number. I think it's exit 8 but I'm not sure. I'll try to check and post here again. Basically go out this exit and walk straight ahead. There is a corner with alot of construction about 20 meters from the exit. Turn right here and just follow that road for 10-15 mins til you get to the entrance of the park/mountain.
You should be able to figure out your way to SNU from the map. |

Yeah it's best going from Sadang sta. There's some steep but isolated trails and it's no problem to get naked! |

| I started walking toward Suwon/Gwacheon from Sadang. I couldn't see any roads but I followed an alley that accessed some vegetable gardens. I found a few trails but obviously not main ones. I ended up at a military installation on the top of the first peak and then cut through a valley which put me just south of the temple I think. I did hook up with some more significant trails after that but didn't really know which way to go on them. I think I should have taken the road back toward Nakseongdae from Sadang and then I would have found that road up to the temple. Because of the way I went in I did avoid the fee. Lucky me. My calves are still sore today. Like knots. I'll have to do this more regularly. |

| Yeah, I ended up on top of the mountain with the anti-aircraft guns once by mistake. I couldn't find a trail so I just made my way up anyway I could. I didn't realize there was a 'base' or whatever on top until I was literally right in front of the stell mesh/barbed wire fence. It gave me quite a surprise. I even managed to set off some motion detector and some siren started to go off. I high-tailed it outta there and decided to just follow the other hikers next time. |
