Sorry I've been asking lots of questions but do you have to pay a maintenance fee on your apartment if you work at a public school (hagwon too)? It doesn't say that you do on recruiter websites but have seen it on dave's. It seems like there are more bills than I had thought and saving alot might also be harder than I anticipated. Thanks! |

Yes..but it's not usually that much. Mine have almost always been under the 100,000 won mark including utilities. |

I pay 130,000 per month which includes electricity, water, internet, security dude, elevator maintenance & building maintenance. I kind of like how internet is included with it... |

It is considered to be a utility fee (like water, cable, internet, electric, etc. (and may actually include some of all of those other fees)) and you pay for it.
It is standard to have a maintenance fee on all rental properties in Korea.

I sometimes wonder exactly what goes into this fee.
For e.g. I pay 25K a month in this mgmt fee, this is a small sum.
BUT.
I am responsible for my own utility bills, like gas and electricity.
so the only thing this could pay is water. and the person who comes around daily to clean the halls and strip the walls of all those restaurant ads and escort cards they incessantly stick on your doors all of the time.
why the hell should I pay for THAT? I don't want anything stuck on my door in the first place. 25K a month for essentially water sounds a bit steep. |

Utilities fees are much higher at an officetel, sometime 2 or 3 times higher than your average jutek. |

The larger complexes also have property managers and security/maintenance guys who draw their salaries from those fees. |

Oh yeah. Those of us who own apartments, not villas, etc., pay monthly management fees as well, and they're always over 100,000 won where I live. |

In theory the maintenance fee is supposed to be calculated by adding the total costs of running and maintaining the apartment building(s) and grounds, then dividing it by the number of residents in the building or complex......that's the theory........
But most people suspect that the maintenance gets carried out much more cheaply and a few lucky people pocket the difference.
Can I set the Dave's record for highest maintenance fee? It's 250,000. Beat that. |

58 pyeong. 3 bedroom. Living room you could play tennis in. Upstairs loft with large private balcony. Large communal garden which is awesome.
It sure is nice......but I resent then fee. It's too much because the complex is only 5 buildings. |

I remember some post that compared paying the building maintenance fee for your rental property to buying lunch for your landlord. It just doesn't make sense. But it is an accepted "utility" in Korea. |
