I'm planning a trip to Russia departing Korea via ferry, but the site I'm given: http://www.dongchunferry.co.kr, does not work.
Does anyone know where to get started to get a transit visa for Russia? Or, does anyone know the address of the Dong Chun Ferry Seoul Office?
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated! |

There's also DBS Cruise Ferry connecting the Port of Donghae and Vladivostok:

for $310 roundtrip, I can see visa runs happening there. Adds 1-2 days to the standard trip.
That said I think the ferries fill up well in advance.
www.waytorussia.net is a good starting point for visas. You really just need to pay a hotel there to sponsor you and submit the form and pay the fee. That can be done online.
say $40 for the invite/voucher
say $100 for the visa to Russia
and $310 RT ferry
and $150 for 2 nights in a hotel there
$600 for a two day outing in Vladivostok. Plus getting to DongHae. Where's that? |

How long you going for? Which cities?
Americans get 30 days..no need for a visa ( 30,000)....same day process time. Business Visa- (90,000-300,00)...( 3-18 days)..
I would recommend flying and knowing your foriegn citizen rights before

This is ABSOLUTELY INCORRECT. Americans need to get a visa to visit Russia.
The process is:
1. Get an Invitation AND Travel Voucher. From any hotel or travel group, i.e. waytorussia.net
2. Bring those and your passport, photos,application, etc. to the Russian Consulate.
3. Pay the Fee. Last time I (American) did it, it was 130,000 won, and I waited for it. (Did not pay for quicker processing.)
4. Wait. (Or pay more for same day/ two day processing)
If you are getting a Business visa for Russia, your invitation must be from your sponsoring organization. (although those can be bought too). Those go from 3 months to a year, possibly 2 or 3, depending on your country of origin. NOTE: If you get a business visa, there is a 90/180 day rule. This means after 90 days in country you must leave until the end of the 180 days are up.
Work visas (don't have to leave after 90 days) are a whole ball of wax unto themselves. |

An "Invitation" IS a business visa...(1 day-12 months)
One just happens to be more formal then the other..and if you American, hotel "registering" will just end you up at the Local Police Station being yelled at in Russian for all of being illegal with no migration card.. nhttp://www.waytorussia.net/RussianVisa/Status.htmlo card.
But.."I registered and payed for my 30-day visa"
Don't trust your Russian '"friends' ( as the website states) either with this, it's all about the capatalist ;so be prepared to pay off someone ALOT more then 130,000 at authority port BEFORE you get thrown in jail ,as they EXPECT illegals to come in off the boat.
I am sorry, but don't think it's wise for anyone to go into Russia alone..unless you know what the hell your doing and it doesn't sound like you do..

WRONG AGAIN
An invitation is NOT a visa. Americans who wish to visit Russia need to secure a TOURIST visa, and the first step of that is to get an invitation from a sponsoring company.
Without a visa in your passport, you won't get past the ferryport or airport check-in counter in South Korea. They won't let you board the vessel.
The new law in Russia is that if you are there for less than a week you need not register your visa. That said, registration is taken care of by the hotel you stay at anyway and does not require a trip to the local Militsia.
The MIGRATION CARD will be stapled to your passport when you enter. (After they take 1/2 of it at Inbound Passport Control.) You must present that card to Passport Control when you leave. For most people it isn't a problem to keep a paper card stapled in their passport during the duration of their trip. This should be presented, with the passport ON THE FIRST DAY to the hotel for registration. |
