Teachers lose out in Korea due to criminal decisions on the part of their employers.

Regardless of your completely uneducated opinion on the matter, the State Department seems to disagree:

We commonly receive complaints from English teachers at private language schools called hagwons. The most frequent complaints are that the schools and/or employment agencies have misrepresented salaries, working conditions, living arrangements, and other benefits, including health insurance, even when the employee has a written contract.

You don't know what you are talking about when you attempt to compare the circumstances with working in Korea.

No, you don't understand how things are here. You know how things are in Illinois.

Oh...well then... I don't have to explain to you what its like to watch a co-worker lose their house because of unannounced cut-backs at the local school system, right?

In that case you know all about the endemic administrative positions which are rarely, if ever, cut while programs are tossed aside, yes?

If you have taught in the States, maybe you cashed-out your retirement--- (assuming you are over 55) and had the whole thing handed to you instead of an explanation of why you couldn't have the whole thing that you worked a couple of decades to build.

But now the big question, Noodle........

HOW many schools are we talking about on your side of the pond? So far I count about ten that have cropped-up here on this forum.

Now, imagine the impending failure of all of the schools in Gyeonggi. Think about it. I'm talking about the failure of entire school districts in areas like Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angles and San Fransisco. And pull--lease don't give me that crap about "budget shortfalls" because the Federal, State and local governments as well contracted firms and Unions have been bleeding the system while teachers in the classroom suffer.

Excuse me, Noodle, but WHO ???? doesn't have a clue??

Pardon me, but WHO??? is outta touch???

If you can't adjust in your own backyard circumstances, without throwing a temper tantrum as you have on this and other topics, you won't be able to deal with the circumstances here, little Brucey.

YOU that's WHO!

You are obviously a TROLL!

I think the words you were casting about for were, " sorry, Bruce, maybe you have a point there."

It would be the polite thing to say. It would also be much more accurate than the words you used.

I'm going to make a wild guess and say that Bruce was fired from the public school system in his hometown. It seems as though he is a very angry person and is trying to justify something. Bruce, if your teaching wasn't up to par enough to keep a job in your hometown, you probably wouldn't make it here.

This:

is not a point.

The fact that you say you see ten schools that have issues goes to show the depth of your ignorance regarding the facts of life here.

Look: I like my job, I work at a good school, I've never had any problems. That said, having known a good number of people whose hagwon owners literally stole from them, I'm going to advise people to be very, very careful when signing a contract.

Hmmm.... you must be in pretty good shape, jumping to conclusions like that. Of course, you are wrong, but apparently that does not make any difference since what this thread has devolved into is little more than antagonism for its own sake.

No, I was not fired from the Public School system. As a matter of fact I still teach college classes.

Correct. I jumped to conclusions just as you have jumped to conclusions about situations here. I did this to make a point. As another poster stated, you have very little knowledge about situations here.

Win Education decided to fire me in January after I worked at a school for exactly 2 years & 10 months (same school).

When I inquired about getting my severance pay, they candidly told me that because I was "Fired", I was not entitled to it.

Common practice of firing someone before the end of the contract, so they don't have to pay severance.

I knew they were in the wrong.

Labor Law states that as long as you have completed 1 year, you should receive pro-rata severance for any time worked after the 1 year. In my case that was 10 months of my salary.

Win Education were adamant about not paying. I took them to the Labor Board and won the case. Received W2 000 000.

I have an F5 Visa now, so I do not need to worry about crap like this anymore. For those of you on an E2 Visa, please take note of the above rule should you ever find yourself in the same situation (highlighted above).
