So a few years ago I pulled a runner after first arriving and the recruiter sent me some long e-mail saying that I can't go back to teach English in Korea ever again, she even said I can't come back to Korea for traveling. Is this true? I obviously won't be going through the same recruiter this time around.

I pulled the runner because the school lied to me. I know I could potentially run into the same problem again but I really want a full time job and can't find that here in the states.

lmao @ your recruiter saying you are banned from korea. people do this after runners to scare foreigners. unless you committed a crime (pulling a runner isnt a crime) youre good.

source: ive pulled a runner this year and had zero problems getti another visa

Yeah, but did you pay back your flight? I didn't pay back my flight.

It depends. There are other people who've pulled runners and had troubles getting a visa or who were flat out denied one. Also it varies whether the employer was a public school or private one. At a public school you are usually (not always) working for the provincial government. They do have enough pull with Immigration to deny a visa...if they bother reporting a runner (which they don't always do).

For a private school...nope.

Can you link to a thread here where someone was denied a visa after pulling a runner?

When I was contemplating doing so 100% of the people I asked said I was good to go. And I had ZERO problems getting a new visa.

Anything else is just rumors (imo).

And I didn't pay back the flight to my school.

Bump for Urban requesting a LINK to someone being denied a visa for pulling a runner (that did NOT commit a crime while doing so)

Since you asked so nicely...here you go. And as a bonus you get... Not one but two such stories in the same link. (see lastat06513's post)... although the girl didn't do a runner she was still denied a visa because the boss lied about her.

The OP was denied a visa because he didn't turn in his ARC when he left (he alludes to this a couple times). Yes, you will be denied a visa for the remainder of your current one if you do NOT hand in your ARC when you leave. In this threads case OP doesn't have to worry about that since a year has passed.

As for the girl, sounds interesting but unfortunately only a few heresay details were given.

Thanks though.

What? Where does he even mention an ARC? No he was denied a visa because he did a runner (and had no LOR from the school) and the old boss complained to Immigration about it which resulted in him having to wait out the original contract term. He even says so in the very first post.

As for not handing in the ARC all that happens is you pay a 100,000 fine..it has no bearing on whether you get another visa...I know I've done it. I left after six months at a hakwon (lost my ARC and was fined). I was still able to get another visa within the orginal term and at a public school to boot.

Hmm you and I have conflicting opinions. I've read plenty of times here that if you do not hand in your ARC you cannot get another visa until your current one expires. Oh well.

What's an ARC? At any rate my contract ended in November 2010 or would've ended rather. I pulled the runner in November 2009.
