Stop before you hit reply and mindlessly type in "MD Guitars in Hongdae". He's a nice guy and he does good work but he's disappointed me once or twice so I'd like to give someone else a go.
So, anybody have any experience getting their guitars set up or repaired by anyone else? In Nagwon maybe?
thanks, eh |

FOr a general set up and the like, I've heard that Lance, at deeleybobs in Haebanchon is good.
Don't really know, as I set up my own guitars.
Justin
PS- Call Lance, don't just try to stop by. As far as I know, the shop does NOT keep regular hours, cause it's just him. He lives near by, though. |

I'm getting a custom bass guitar made from there once some parts mailed from the US. The guys name Ryu, and he does some pretty cool custom jobs. |

Hey, belated thanks all. At the moment it's a re-fret, but it could be any of a number of things I need from time to time.
Maybe I'll give the willows guy a try. |

Haven't, and won't. I didn't see anything on their site about working with acoustics, so I gave them a miss. I ended up just taking the guitar to MD and he did a really good job.
I actually saw and touched milkman's bass. I didn't play it in earnest, but it looked and felt really solid. |

Interesting. I want to get a new nut installed and a proper setup - with no fret buzz with a good lower set action. I tried some bafoons in that 낙원 hole of a building that were supposedly "the best and oldest in Korea" - yea right! And I am tired of their monkey-of-a-response that "all guitars buzz."
I really would like to know where to go for a TRUE professional experience. |

Bahahahahaha! I probably would have hit him over the head with my buzzing D-35. Maybe not. |

...then let me do a total and complete 180 from my OP and tell you to visit MD. He charges 30,000 (or is it 40?) for a basic setup, and can certainly be trusted to do that.
One of my beefs with him is that he didn't listen to me one time when I said "don't set the action too low; I'm a hack". He doesn't seem to realize that not all of us are the world's most articulate fingerstyle players, and that some of us like it just a bit high so we can really dig in without fear of it buzzing.
Part of the reason for my OP is just that I've never had any work done from anyone else in the country and in the interests of due diligence thought I should try someone else out for once. But that someone else still hasn't materialized.
If I had an electric, I'd be tempted to try Willow, but as there's not a word on their site about acoustics, I gave them a miss as I also had the bridge removed and re-glued. |
