I would like to start a web-based business in Korea. As a foreigner (E-2), can I legally start a business here or will I need a Korean to open it in their name or something like that. I want to advertise in Korea in print, so I'm sure I need a legit business license.
I'm not quite sure where to start trying to discover the legalities, taxes, etc. involved in this. Any help would be very appreciated. |

| You can't start a business on an E2. It's an English-teaching only visa. You can't teach privates either. |

there's nowhere to start. you're just not allowed to do it on your visa. It needs to be an F-class, not E. |

| I think if you have to ask that question, then you do not have the knowledge or experience to open a web based business. By definition a web based business could be in Kandahar Province in Afghanistan and it would make no difference to your Korean visa. Also, using a payment system like CCBill or Pay-pal is also totally without borders and the money can go to any account in any country. If a Korean orders shoes from a US based country does immigration check that the owner of the internet site has an E-2 visa? Don't be absurd. Piece of advice, don't bother. |

Totally wrong and without any basis in fact. Get server space in another country and use an international payment system. |

If this person wants to advertise here in Korea...That could become a problem. |

If the local government find official information you made money while being in Korea, it MIGHT cause issues with the tax authorities. |

Sure he could do that but I assume he wants to run a legit korean business, advertising to Koreans, shipping to Koreans, processing Korean payments frmo banks, etc. Is that still "totally wrong?" |

That's just a 'foreign' business targeting customers accessing from Korea, not a 'business in Korea.' |
