Hey everyone,
So I am heading off to Korea in a month to teach english, leaving my desktop behind. I'm looking to buy either a laptop or iPad. I am not necessarily concerned with the debate on whether an ipad is necessary if you already have a laptop. I am wondering instead if there is any reason that I would not be able to do all my work on a tablet. Instead of the "I HATE IPADS" or "I LOVE IPADS" rhetoric, I would prefer any useful advice on their limitations when it comes to teaching English over there.
Thanks!

Everybody has a different daily routine and computing requirements......so there's no set answer.

On my iPad I ...

Create word/PDF documents
Create spreadsheets
Create presentations
Create photo slideshows
Show videos
Play audio files
Access the Internet

And those are just for work. That being said, I have a desktop at home and would be hard pressed to imagine running my iPad for a year without updating or syncing it.

Yeah it seems you would want something to store documents and videos, etc. on. The iPad could be limited in it's storage capacity compared to a laptop.

It's more like a working interface but not to replace laptops.

1 option could be to go second hand..try it for a few months then either keep if u like or sell on if its not doing the job u wanted. i imagine u would hardly lose anything in value in just a couple of months. unless ipad 3 just happened to be released the day after Wink

I feel like it really depends on how you use your computer.

If you do a lot of content creation with your computer, from typing, working with media, programming whatever--then you're better off having a device that has a proper keyboard.

If you tend to do more consumption, then an Ipad is probably fine for you.

Are you using the software keyboard for all of that? And how much editing is getting done there?
