I decided to do Boracay over Phuket because I have already been to Thailand and the cost is cheaper, and I think Boracay is more relaxing.
With that said, I will fly with Cebu Pacific Air.
For contact info, should I use my Korean address or U.S. address - or does it matter?
Furthermore, I have heard that Caticlan airport is closed... is this true? If so, how can Cebu Pacific Air issue tickets to this airport? Anyway, just want to know about these questions.
Finally, where should I stay for the best beach, most nightlife and best food?
I heard station 2 is best.
I know this isn't the best time to go, but I have no choice. |

Caticlan is not closed but they won't allow the jets to land there.
The smaller STOL turbo props are still using it. If you need to be diverted they will land at Kalibo and then you get a 2 hour van ride to the pier in Caticlan.
You can use either contact address but if the plan crashes, is there anyone in Korea that really cares? They do need your Korean phone number though in case there is a change in your flight.
Personally, I like the places from station 1 to station 2 but there are those who prefer outward from station 3 (far end of the beach). You can find accommodation all along the beach and all price ranges are accommodated.
As far as being too far from anything, the whole island is only 7km long (White Beach itself is 3.5km from end to end) and 1km wide. You'll never be too far from anything, even if you are on the back side of the island.
D'Mall is located between station 2 and 3.

I love Boracay! I'm going back for my next winter vacation.
I recommend Frendz Resort, provided you're OK with backpacker-type accommodations. It's close to the D-Mall, lots of restaurants, and nightlife options.
I also recommend renting a scooter and driving around the island. Trust me, you won't be sorry! On the beach near Frendz Resort, there's a guy who stands under a blue shelter who rents scooters, and he's legit. Just like everything else in the Philippines, remember that his prices are negotiable.
Definitely check out the D-Tallipapas seafood market! You get together a bunch of other people (whom you probably met at Frendz Resort), bargain with the guys at the market selling seafood, then take your seafood to a nearby restaurant where they cook it for you in the styles you choose from their menu!
Take a sailboat ride if you get the chance. Several people have recommended island-hopping trips, but I haven't done one of these yet.
At night, there are a few OK clubs, or better yet, hit up a live music bar. They've gotten some quite talented singers to perform at these places. While you're there, be sure to enjoy some hookah.

Yes, and you can buy a flight from LA to Boston but if Boston is closed in by a pea-soup fog you can be diverted to another airport elsewhere and bused to your destination. No different.

Yes, and you can buy a flight from LA to Boston but if Boston is closed in by a pea-soup fog you can be diverted to another airport elsewhere and bused to your destination. No different.

Out of curiosity, what conditions determine whether the big jets can land in Caticlan? When I went to Boracay in '08 there were no big jets going there. |

Currently, NO jets are permitted to land in Caticlan (runway is too short) and it is a safety issue. STOL aircraft are permitted to land VFR rules (which is why they can be diverted in bad weather).
There was a short time when they tried using A319s and BAe 146's and YAK-40's. After they ran a couple of YAK-40A's off the runway (06/2005, 11/2006) they banned the jets. There have been 2 more recent accidents in 2009 where Zest Air botched the landings (1 overshoot and 2 undershoot) with a Xian MA60.
Currently only Cebu Pacific (ATR-72-500's), SEAir (Do-328's) and AirPhil Express (Dash-8's) are the only airlines who use the facilities at Caticlan.
ALL other airlines going to Boracay fly into Kalibo and use a bus/van to get to the boat pier in Caticlan for the ride over to Boracay.
There are also a few private charters (mostly Cessna's) that use the airport as well.

Subsidiary airline (* Flight is operated by Air Philippines ). NOT a PAL flight.

Look at the little yellow marker beside the flight info/flight number on the PAL website (* operated by Air Phils).
