@pete07--
If you go to the main page of the site and scroll all the way to the bottom,
there is a "contact us" tab--hit that & it will say "e-mail us a question or comment" at the top of the page.
That is the e-mail I used.
Good luck! |

Recevied my apostilled cbc on July 12
Best of luck to everyone else waiting on their apostille. Next time use an expedited service such as apostille pros |

I just received a call from Department of State authenticication office and the lady told me that even though I sent my stuff on June 6th and I have proof that they recieved it on the 8th that they did not get it until June 29th! When I asked her how that was possible, she said that everything has to scanned. IDK if that is a load or not cause I had my congressman call on my behalf. She said they were working on my apostilled but she could not tell me when they would be done because they have a "back log.". Anyway when she called, this number showed up on my caller id: 202-861-0945.b |

Just a follow-up:
I called the DoS and was passed along to Operations (for a second time). When I pointed out that this was my second contact with the young lady, she responded that I must not have been home to take her call when she called me back. So I asked her straight out why all of this was necessary and why it was not mentioned on the website. The response was that the office has been innundated with thousands of requests for people wanting to work outside of the US. The backlog is very bad. The aerospace industry alone has thousands of people being cut-back and they are seeking to sell their skills overseas....and thats just one industry.
As I mentioned on another thread the Unemployment in the US is currently 9.2% with another 16% who are temporarily employed, under-employed or who have stopped looking for work. Translated into numbers that means that 25% of the 191 million working americans---about 47,750,000 are either under-employed, temporily employed, un-employed or given up looking for work.
No real point except to give context to the situation. Oh, and my BC? Its in the mail, I guess.
Best Wishes,
Bruce |

A quick update to anyone still following this thread: I don't want to rain pessimism down, but the "call your congressperson" trick is not a universal winner. I had my congressperson's office start their thing about 2-3 weeks ago. The lady who is in charge of my case claims she called once-twice a week at first, and then started to call more frequently inquiring as to the status. She told me that now the DoS is not even accepting calls from congresspersons! They created an email specifically for congressional offices contacting them about apostille cases.
In addition, I tried the call-the-DoS trick and trying to get in touch with someone there for 2-3 weeks. First voicemail (which is full of course) and the transfer to the covering extension, who never picks up. I would repeat this for about 10-15 minutes every day, sometimes twice to account for lunch hours. No dice.
And that email? I started with that. Back in early June. I emailed them a lot, never a reply.
The best news I've had so far is that they cashed the $8 check I mailed them. Last week. Woot.
So far: 6 weeks to the day that they've officially had my background check, not including the 2 weeks of scanning it takes before they open it up.
So to those people like me still waiting and reading these forums about the CBC, about people who called someone and got it mailed that day or the next day? Luck. Honestly, it was probably just luck.
Don't mean to cloudy anyone's day, just saying this is not something that is being cured by some miracle phone call or email for most of us so please don't get your hopes up like I did
Sigh...I better love my students and job, meet a nice girl, fall in love and never leave or else this whole thing will be hardly worth it! |

@aquaricondos--
You're not "raining pessimism".
You're just frustrated like so many others, and it's good to vent that frustration-especially in the manner you did.
I know what you mean--after all this CRAP we all have to go through now; I hope to God it's worth it!
**Your $8 check being cashed is a good start, though**
Good luck!! |

When I first contacted Department of State authenticication office they told me that they didn't receive my docs and that was on July 5th. Then on July 8th I called again and I talked to a mailroom lady and she told me that they received my docs on June 8th.
Then on July 11th, 12th, and 13th and all I got was a busy singal. But, think finaly my sister got the docs on July 14th. |

I used:
http://www.usauthentication.com/place-order.html
to get mine done a little while back and they were professional, fast and relativity cheap as far as the services go. They quoted me 45$ for the FBI check. |

Sent my CBC to D.C. July 3...still waiting.
Now I am concerned because it has just occurred to me that my CBC was done in November 2010. Is it too old now?!
I may have just screwed myself on a great job. |

I believe yours is. They can be no older then 6 months from what I have read. I could be wrong if someone else had other information. How is it, if I may ask, that you still don't have yours back? What happened? |

@stephorama--
Yeah, sorry to say you'll have to go through the whole thing again--fingerprints to the FBI(if you're American) , then back to DC for the apostille.
Try to look at it this way--an even BETTER job is on the horizon!! |
