I've been here 6 years you prat. Most hogwons will supply you with the details of the person who you are replacing because they'll say nothing bad because they need to find a replacement.

This only makes sense if the majority of people leaving schools are breaking contracts, which isn't the case. If you're leaving the school and your contract is up there is no incentive to lie to a potential hire in order to find your replacement.

I'll let you in on a secret: lots of people don't like their jobs but finish their contracts because they have very little choice to do so. The big bad boss owes your E2 visa not you. Thus many don't bother changing jobs and when it comes to leaving they say nothing to their replacement. I've known lots of people do it and who will do it in the future because they hate their jobs.
I hope it makes sense now because I can't be arsed explaining myself again!! Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink

Obviously plenty of people hate their jobs, but your argument makes no sense: you hate your job, so you leave your job, but because you hated your job, you refuse to say anything to the person replacing you? Why? So they can suffer as much as you did? Are you saying that they're so bitter towards their place of employment that they choose to say nothing to their replacement (thus helping said place of employment)? You don't have to explain yourself again, but don't expect anyone to accept this as a logical argument.

Just look at the number of posts on here about people working at bad hakwons who say that they will post the name of their hakwon when they leave...and then are never heard from again.

Not to mention that when someone asks if they can speak to the teacher that the boss is going to set up a time when he can listen in as well.
Of course you could always ask him on the phone if you can speak to him later when no one is listening..but he'd have to be awfully dense not to realize that when you turn down the job that the boss is likely to blame him. Which would likely result in him getting fired and losing last month's pay and severance. He doesn't own this guy anything so why even risk it?

It doesn't take a genius to put 2 and 2 together and think "hmm he was wanting to work here and after speaking with the foreign teacher he's not? Maybe he called him later and the foreign teacher told him what it was really like?"

Contrary to popular opinion hakwon bosses are not always stupid when it comes to figuring out things. Many are highly paranoid anyway (what with dodging the tax and pension offices for years).
