|
|
Hi Everyone,
I've been at my new job 2 weeks, and have spent at least 60,000 won on those 10,000 won/60 minute international calling cards.
Is there a less expensive way to make international calls? (Skype does not seem to have good enough reception for me).
I.e. do you know of any good phone cards, phone plans, etc.?
Thanks |

| Is it a Skype issue or an internet issue? If it's a Skype issue and the person on their other end knows how to use a computer, you can try Google Talk as an alternative (though you can't call landlines/mobiles with it). |

if you dial 1688-4949 then enter in the country code + phone number, international calls are free. Uses your anytime minutes.
Not sure if its all countries though, I call the US |

^That's what OTO does. You'll need free minutes on your phone plan though. It'll work for international calls to landlines and 'some' mobiles. I know calls to mobiles in the US are free, Australia isn't. |

Okay, so if I put OTTO international on my galaxy s I can call home for free? No international charges, just using my regular plan minutes? Will the receiver be charged anything extra?
If so, now I have no excuse to call my mother ㅠㅠ |

Skype is like 3 dollars a month to have unlimited calling to North America.
Skype with SK is garbage, but works fine with KT and other providers. |

This works for me. It's exactly the same charge as a domestic cell phone call. |

Garbage with T-board as well since the quake.
It works fine Skype to Skype, but Skype to phone gets so much loss that it is practically unusable.
The sad thing is that 3g skype calling on KT is faster than my damn 20gig broadband connection from T-broad. |

Get a programm like Ekiga. Ekiga is similar to skype (free phone and video calls to other people using the programm) and as Skype you can also call pstn (the landline or mobile phone numbers) for money. BUT it is open source and has an open protocol.
What this means is that you can freely choose the company that connects your internet device (computer, phone) to pstn (the landline or mobile phone).
And there are TONS of companies competing with lower prices then Skype.
like this SIP provider https://www.calleasy.com/en/rates.html
I personally use http://diamondcard.us/ simply because I like the company.
Of course you only need a SIP provider if you want to call pstn number.
And of course Ekiga is only one program out of many alternatives.
In case you just happen to have crappy internet you might be interested in getting a virtual phone number.
With let's say a virtual phone US number you could easily redirect any call going to that number to any other phone in the world. You could redirect in to your normal SIM and you US friend/family can call you for local rates.
Maybe have a look in shop at http://diamondcard.us
The two products 'calling cards' and 'phone numbers' might be of interest to you. |
