Sorry, I know this is brought up every now and then, but my situation is a little unique. If you can offer some insight, I would really appreciate it.
1) I will be transferring my visa to a new school.
2) Before I transfer, I need to extend my current visa for a month in order to complete my full year at my current school.
3) I transferred my visa last year. As such, I don't have my degree or criminal records check on file yet.
Do I need to have a Canada wide check and have my degree apostilled for a transfer? From what I understood, you get a 'pass' for this year if transferring or renewing, but I just recently read that this pass only applies to one visa change. My worry is that the extension may count as that one 'pass.' I'm going to try and give immigration a call, but I was hoping someone may have some insight.
If I do need to get the CBC and degree apostilled, anyone have a rough estimate on how long it takes for Canadians?
Thanks and sorry for bringing this up again. |

My coworker is in a similar situation, she too is worried that her recent visa extention will count as that one free pass.
I don't know the answer. I know that there are always individual circumstances and exceptions made, so if you explain your situation you might get by without needing new documents until 2012. If you call immigration, report back here so i can show your answer to my coworker. Her situation was practically identical to yours. |

What if you extend longer than a month? It's still a transfer. Why does it have to be just a month? |

I'm extending my current contract for a month because it expires a month before my full year is up, but I'll be starting at a new school (if there are no visa issues) in September. I can't transfer it yet as my contract hasn't been completed.
I'm going to give immi a call tomorrow, but I'm always skeptical of the answers I get. When I transferred last year I got different info from the 3 or 4 people that I spoke to there. |

I have been considering switching schools, because of many issues with my current hagwon. I started in February, with a visa transfer, and didn't have to have my degree notarized at that time or the CBC.
I called the immigration hotline, and they told me that for a visa transfer, I still did not need these documents, but if I was going to renew my visa, then I would.
Wasn't sure if it was correct info, and so went to immigration, and they told me that yes, I do need the documents in order to transfer my visa.
Who knows, though, if I were to speak to another person if I would get the same info. |

You get ONE and ONE ONLY change in your status of sojourn before you need to have your national CBC and Certified degree on file.
For Canadians the CBC (unless you have someone in canada to do the running around) will take 4 months and then another month to get it certified by the Korean consulate in Canada.
Your degree copy also needs to be certified by the consualte in Canada.
*Canada is NOT a member of the "apostille treaty" so as a canadian you CAN'T get an apostille for your documents.
In your case OP, your extension will count as your change in status. You will either need new documents BEFORE you can effect a transfer OR you can fly home on your hagwans dime, get your paperwork done while you are in Canada (takes about a week) and return on the new employers ticket with a new visa.

thanks a ton ttompatz for clearing that up. that's kind of what i expected. it's huge let down, but i guess it's my fault for leaving it until the last minute.
i called this afternoon and they said pretty much the same thing. since i'm extending at my current school i won't be able to extend/transfer again without new docs.
another somewhat related question.
how hard is it to transfer to a d4? i was planning on working part-time and studying, but it looks like i'm going to jump on a d4 until i get my documents in order.
from what i understand, all i need is 3mil in the bank and a document showing i'm enrolled? is that really all there is to it (besides the basics, i.e. passport, photos, etc)? |

I still don't understand why you can't extend with your current school ONCE longer than a month (like a year) and then transfer that. |

i thought about this as well, but a transfer counts as another change in visa status so it would require new docs as far as i understand. |
