Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone knew if I had to pay duty on an engagement ring that I am going to bring into Korea. I read a previous post where the cost of the duty is 30% on engagement rings.

My girlfriend is coming with me in late July and I want to propose to her while in Korea. She will be leaving shortly after, so will I need to pay duty on the ring? I will be bringing it from Cananda and she will be returning to Canada the following week with the ring.... If she says yes. The cost of the ring was $9000 so I really don't want to pay duty on it.

Thanks.

My male fingers are too fat for the ring. Any other suggestions?

And if an immi security dude is like "Hmmm, we don't believe you! We think you're smuggling a diamond for your wife!"

Then you should break down in tears and say how it's your long lost Grandmother... who just died a few days ago... and how sad you are... because you never knew her. But all you have left of her is this ring...

Yeah but you wont like it. Forget about getting married. It's not going to work out and will just end up costing you a fortune when you discover her "switch" It may take 1 year or 10 but it will happen-she'll dump you or get fat or treat you like a piece of dog crap but at some point you are going to wish you had never met this person. Live with her until this happens-and it will and then leave. Whatever you do, don't have kids-the ultimate $ cruncher.

Don't believe me? Save this post somewhere and then read it in 20 years. Was I right or what? You can thank me later.

Put it in your pocket when you are about to board the plane.

Seriously governments have got no right to be taxing people on precious metals or jewelary.

If you pay the duty then you are being dumb.

TAX/Duty = theft.

Yea, wear it. Done it twice. We got my ring from Tiffany's in New York. Saved almost 40% off of the price here. She wore it in as a necklace under her blouse when she came to visit us.

1. swallow it

2. put it up your bum hole, use plenty of lube if you do! If the ring gets a bit dirty just tell her its a 'brown'diamond! - don't let her sniff it!

That might work until the TSA agent does the body cavity search, pulls out with the ring on his finger and says, "You may kiss the bride."
