I was wondering, if someone has an experience trying to ship a car from South Korea to a Foreign country such as EU or US.

I am planning to ship my car but I found out that the GU office ask the licence plates in order to allow the export.

Problem is that in the other country you need to have a licence plate to be able to use their road for a limited time.

waiting for some more infos... thanks Question

Check the country (or country and STATE if looking at the US) of destinations import rules.

MOST (street) cars from Korea CANNOT be exported to North America and (street cars) CANNOT under any circumstances be taken from Korea to Canada.

Not sure about the EU.

What kind of car are you trying to export?

Often, the U.S. version of Korean cars are significantly cheaper.

I am trying to bring the car to France

It's an SUV chevrolet captiva aka winstorm.
I bought it 5 years ago new.

feel nostalgic about leaving the car behind Sad

probably better to sale before leaving, will avoid hassle of paperwork, taxes and high maintenance costs.

if someone is interested !

It also depends on the car. I have a European brand car but one that was intended for the US market (speedometer is in MPH, temperatures are in degrees F, etc.). I would have no problems bringing this car to the US since that's the market it was intended for. However, even though it is a European car, it is likely I would have a lot of trouble bringing it to Europe.

A lot depends on the market the car was intended for and where you are trying to bring it.

I decided it was too much hassle to bring the car back home (France)

so I will put my car for sale.

thanks everyone for your answers.

If you are interested, check the sale and buy forum
