Racism

Quote:

1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.

2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.

3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

Most people are prejudiced. I would say a minority of people are actually racist.

Wasn't that test slightly flawed?

The first time I had to take into consideration both the meaning of the word and the race being shown it took me a little time to adjust. Considering two possiblities at once and making the decision is a little harder than deciding on just one metric right?

So in the first round when black and good was on one side and white and bad on the other side I was slower because I wasn't use to having to take into two things into consideration at once. Even at 50% of the way through of the first round I could feel my reaction time getting better.

Then we move on to the section where white is paired with good words and black is paired with bad words. Now, because I have had a little practice it, I am quicker at sorting out two criteria and am able to complete the test faster.

Bogus test if you ask me. The mere fact that simply got better at reacting, easily answers why I was quicker at the section that had black and bad words on the same side.

"Your data suggest little to no automatic preference between European American and African American."

What the hell was the point to that? It was more like Mavis Beacon teaches typing than about race. Can't believe our government is funding such pseudoscience - oh wait, this is the same government who says let's spend a billion dollars to launch a space shuttle or start a war.

I prefer educated, rational men and women of other races to ignorant, irrational dumbasses of my own.

Anyone else found it funny how the 'sorting' aligned White and Good together, while Black and Bad together?

It did it both ways. I notice that one poster said it paired white/bad - black/good first and later switched to white/good - black/bad. When I took it, the white/good - black/bad pairing was first and later switched to white/bad - black/good.

It's a controlled experiment which means it does it both ways. First they pair white and good and then black and good.

I guess the more times you make the mistake of clickiing "bad" when a person of a particular race comes up is directly proportional to how racist you are.

im not racist, i hate everyone equally! lol

it really depends on the person, i grew up in philly then near nashville, but i love asian women. not to say that i didnt sleep with a couple non asians, BUT to marry? definitely asian, and my gf currently is korean. so yeah ^_^

I really think it depends on your environment and the such, ive said it before but im mixed korean. My mom is accepting of anyone but she PREFERS me to marry a certain. and growing up with my father and his friends their term for something broken or messed up was "niG**r-rigged" which denotes stupidity and ignorance. thankfully that never affected me, one of my best friends is black and has one of the biggest hearts ive ever seen in a person.

really depends on the person and their defining environment as well

That's not really controlled in any way. There are just too many variables affecting the test. How can it measure you subconscious attitudes to race when it clearly raises them by been a test about race. Too be a 'better' test it has to show that it is testing what it claims to be testing, which is where I think it fails. The person taking the test needs to be a lot more unaware.

I felt a little anxious about not receiving a 'You're a racist' score. How does this effect my responses? Then there is the growing familiarity with the pictures and words as you look at them. When you see a word, perhaps you haven't seen it for a while, then you see it again and again how does this affect your response time.

It's a fun test, but too many criticisms make it a poor test:

How racist you are is also determined by how long it takes you to complete each part of the test. If it takes you longer to complete the part of the test when black is paired with good it's because your subconscious does not associate being black with being good. So it confuses your subconcious to see black paired with good. This confusion slows you down. A computer can measure your response time in milliseconds so your prejudices can be measured quite accurately.

I think generally every person on earth favours their own race with a few exceptions. From an evolutionary biological stance that makes perfect sense.
