5am I'm awaken to the guts wrenching screams of a women on the street. I look out my window and see a women crying and screaming as her bf is kicking her. I go out and tell him to go home and be quiet and he gives me the "foreigners opions don't matter" look. i go back to the apartment and the domestic dispute goes on as usual with her crying and screaming and him yelling at her. i go back and tell to shut up and go home. He won't budge and continues on. I give him a good shove and he calls the cops. I'm thinking, great. The cops come and he tells them he was walking along with his gf when a foreigner pushed him out of nowhere, unrelated to anything.. I explain he was violently dealing with her and her legs and distressed face are/were clear evidence. A grandmother watching the entire incident tells the cops i did indeed push the guy but falls short of telling them the prior!!! And she stood there watching him kicking his gf. I'm guessing the cops will surmise that he was beating on her but I suspect that that part doesn't matter. I wouldn't be the least surprised if I end of with "violence" on my visa record! Keep u updated. |

So tell us again why you didn't just call the cops to begin with? |

Yep, never get involved. It always ends badly for the foreigner in this country. The most you should have done was call the cops on them. |

I didn't call the cops cause a) they won't do anything b) it's 5am and my local police department doesn't speak english nor is my korean language sufficient enough to explain the exact location, situation. C) telling them to be quiet usually works. d) pushing someone is not violence in any way esp. considering the gf beatings!
of course 119 does OCCASIONALLY have english volunteer translators but it is hit and miss on that one. |

Just do what you do with stray animals and throw cold water on them from your window. |

Well, evidently they did do something when a complaint was lodged against you for merely pushing someone, so if they won't do anything in a clear case of domestic abuse, it's probably because the woman refuses to lodge a complaint or press any charges. Given that, why involve yourself at all? She has the power to end that situation whenever she wishes; if she continues to refuse to do so, that's her choice.

Pushing someone is obviously violence. You attacked that man. Maybe you did so in a reasonably restrained fashion, and maybe you did so with the best of intentions, but you attacked him. |

You dial any one of the 11* numbers and they speak English. Local stations might not, but the actual call center does. I've called them before and never had a problem.
The fact that the other guy called the cops and you didn't is probably going to work against you in a major way.
People, you want to play hero, do it from home. Getting in some guy's face (a guy who has already shown he'd beat a women) is never a good idea. And why do you have to be seen? Think the women is going to run to your arms and thank you?
Seriously, unless someone is getting murdered, stand back and call the cops. |

it's not violence. Pushing occurs everyday, on every sidewalk..it's conscious and it's part of society as NORMAL. It's violence when a foreigner does it - that's the point.
I actually caught a rapist in 2005.. He was fully preparing for every act involved in rape.. and it stemmed from a similar set of screams which I ignored for about 10 minutes, when it occured in 2005.
In this case, it was gf beating. And it was a young couple so it's just a quick way to stop him beating on her (knowing he won't have a way to stab/shoot or beat me up cause it's one guy).
The cop shop can decide what it wants to do - I would do it again!
No, I wasn't thinking hero. I was thinking "don't be up your gf here and now" |

i don't want to bring this up and over your basement bottom logic.. but it is called "police work" in which local cops use the physical, verbal and circumstantial info to make a informed decision.
Like her legs are all red and swollen (which they were). she's seriously distressed and crying and both of them are drunk on soju at 5am and screams were heard every f#@ direction imaginable for over 15minutes. if they asked ANYONE who is unbiased, they can determined what really happened. i'm a professor at a top university on the street at 5am.. The guy claims I just came out of nowhere as he's on his way to church (sarcasm). Doesn't take a living columbo to figure out what happened.
You call the cops and your BSing them - which the cops can figure out pretty quickly... you do the math |

OP you done the right thing. Don't listen to the cowards on this forum telling you not to get involved. Violence and hitting a woman isn't on. |

Mr. Niceguy sticks himself into the business of others and gets punished accordingly. Serves you right.
I love this story. |
